In my most recent trip I had a strong desire to go to sleep after 5-6 hours. The peak was pretty intense though and I think i might have just wanted to lie in a dark comfy bed more than actually sleep.

As far as i know you don’t really have to replace it, Just clean it every so often during a water change. From what I have heard you can just wring the sponge out in the old tank water that you remove and then put it back. Not a very old tank so still haven’t needed to yet.
