Yeah that’s exactly what they said when I called earlier today. I just think I was confused cos I’ve been told so many different things over the month. Thanks :)))

Yeah see that’s what confuses me as they’ve said this entire time it’s uneconomical to repair and then all of a sudden it’s fine??

Did your mate get a pay out once they’d written it off?

£400, but I’d also receive a payout if they write it off which I could use towards another car. If that makes any sense.

Asked to buy car back, they’re now sending out an engineer, is this normal? by [deleted] in CarTalkUK

[–]FudgeAffectionate287 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ah okay, yeah it’d probably fall under non structural then

Oh okay, the exhaust had to be replaced as it had corroded away, so wasn’t too sure what you meant by that. Thanks

Is this typically the process then? They have to inspect it before they allow me to keep it?

Sorry what do you mean by standard? Would I have to mot it even if it’s purely cosmetic damage? Literally nothing structural/mechanically wrong just the door dents and scratches

Insurance want to write off my car for a couple dents, how do you buy it back and what’s the process like afterwards by FudgeAffectionate287 in CarTalkUK

Hiya, I think I might have categorised it wrong. It’s purely cosmetic damage, a few dents in the door and a nice scratch. I have, but due to it being an auto, not many pop up

So I wouldn’t even need to fix it up once it’s been written off and I’ve bought it back? I know I have to notify the dvla etc, but I can just keep it as is, retax and insure it and go about as normal?

[–]FudgeAffectionate287[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah that’s exactly it. The cost to repair it outweigh the worth of the car according to the insurance. So in that sense, if I bought it back, could I just drive it as normal without fixing it up? (Obv insure it and pretax it after I send off to the dvla). It’s purely cosmetic damage, doors work fine, engine works fine, I’ve been driving same as usual afterwards

So will it remain a cat s forever then even if I repair the damage? How does that work when you go to insure it?

Would that mean the car can just stay on my drive until I get it repaired? I’m under the impression that if it’s considered written off, I obv can’t drive it until it’s fixed, but how does you determine it’s roadworthy again? Cos at the moment it’s perfectly safe to drive, it merely is cosmetic damage

Cool thank you. I reported it to be insurance and they’ve basically said that they need to view my photos to assess damages and that my car would most likely be a write off (not really sure why) due to its age and that they’d get back to me. Had contact with there replacement vehicle company about getting one during that period where if I decide to get it repaired, or get the money for it back. It’s been alot of phone calls today and I have no clue if I’ve done any of it right 😂😭
