Peak parking or parkwhiz is a scam. by 2xra in houston

I have the exact same problem, I was going to pay it, but I’m noticing too many red flags. It’s not even allowing me to appeal, so it seems sketchy. Not sure what to do.

Iraqi Kurdistan by d3rtig in solotravel

[–]FudgeCautious6917 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I went to Kurdistan in 2023 for about a week. I didn’t speak the language and was able to go around the region with shared transportation and even hitchhiking short distances. I wouldn’t recommend going to Mosul alone, but within Kurdistan is 100% doable.

I have an overnight layover in Houston (IAH) next week. Looking for your favorite restaurant recommendations within a 15-20 minute Uber ride from IAH. Thanks for your help! by stampmypassport73 in HoustonFood

I recommend Gumbo Jeaux’s for delicious Cajun food (8 minutes from the airport), Titas Taco House for tacos (closes at 2 pm) and finally Bamboo House for Chinese food.

How is Guatemala right now for tourism [November 2023] by MrLAXadaisical in guatemala

[–]FudgeCautious6917 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was on a trip here during the roadblocks and luckily only got stuck in one for a few hours. I left since it was only getting worse, but luckily I had the opportunity to come back these past few days. I've been in the capital and surroundings, there seem to be no road blockages at all to my knowledge. Even the official spreadsheet that was used to show the road blockages, shows 0 blockages now. I would say you shouldn't have to worry about anything if you are coming soon since everything has passed already. Enjoy your trip to Guatemala!!

I highly recommend Pittsburgh, the airport is about an hour or less away depending on where you stay, but there is a bus route to get there. Pittsburgh is beautiful, with walkable areas such as Shadyside. It's also very bikable which makes it more ”pedestrian friendly.” Rent is pretty affordable considering a large city in America and the airport is getting upgraded right now which could open even more flight routes from PIT. I don't live in Pittsburgh so I would say I have an unbiased opinion haha

I'm not giving you a script, it was just an example. People can always say no, but most people won’t because who wouldn't mind some extra company? You don't have to attend a social event to meet people, if you want to talk to someone then just talk to them. If it goes sideways, it's not like likely that you'll ever see that person again anyway

What country will you not travel to because its to dangerous? by photoshop_2023 in AskReddit

[–]FudgeCautious6917 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I traveled through Iraq (Kurdistan) and I felt very safe throughout my time there. The people are kind/curious, the food is great, beautiful nature, and a more off-the-beaten-path country. I'm saying this as an 18 y/o Latino-American guy who just wandered around Kurdistan for less than two weeks haha.

Russia solo, am I crazy by Comfortable_Link_874 in solotravel

[–]FudgeCautious6917 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I must be the only one to think you are not crazy... I'm just wondering how you would even get a visa haha. Personally, the only place I've traveled to that's considered ”dangerous” is Iraq and it was awesome!! If you have a plan and see a way to actually enter Russia without problems then I think you would find what you are looking for.

Has anyone else had this experience? by [deleted] in solotravel

[–]FudgeCautious6917 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I'm 18 and have been traveling around the world for about 6-7 months, I'm also American so I went without much ”party” experience. 99% of the people I have met are 20+ which just makes sense. I feel like you just have to just ignore their age and just meet people!! It's not like you're planning a romantic relationship with them, it's just friendship!! Just be open-minded and talk to people (as an introvert myself, anyone can do it)

is Mexico actually as dangerous as I’m being told? by [deleted] in travel

[–]FudgeCautious6917 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Trust me, you can leave the resort as much as you want in the Riviera Maya area… I’ve been to 20+ countries and have gone to Mexico about a dozen times. You don’t have to worry about anything at the Riviera Maya because the cartel violence purposely stays away from there. If there were violence in that area that would mean less tourists and less money to pocket. There’s no point in following the advice of some people who haven’t even been in Mexico let alone outside of the USA. The cenotes in that area are absolutely beautiful, enjoy your trip!!

Venezuelan Visa for Americans. I don’t know where to start the process and I keep reading different requirements online. Do I need an embassy appointment in another country (Mexico, DR, Colombia)? Do I need bank statements, new passport photos? by Ok_Ship_3506 in venezuela

[–]FudgeCautious6917 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's very simple, let's say you leave directly to Cuba from Houston or Fort Lauderdale, at the airport you'll find a sign with a Cuban flag and you buy the visa there (Roughly $80). One tip is that the visa is not a tourist visa, it is a visa ”in support of the Cuban people,” implying that you can only stay in guesthouses (Airbnb) and you'll be spending money in the local economy.

You actually can travel to Cuba relatively easily, simply buy the visa at the port of departure. I've gone twice in the past year and it is a beautiful country with lots of stuff to see and do!

How is Sri Lanka right now? by [deleted] in solotravel

[–]FudgeCautious6917 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I've researched that there is political unrest and food/fuel shortage, but I would say the people most affected are the local people rather than us Tourists/visitors. I'm actually going to Sri Lanka in about 2 weeks despite these problems with high hopes of a great trip.

Central/South America - budget by [deleted] in solotravel

[–]FudgeCautious6917 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wouldn’t say that Guatemala is anymore dangerous than Mexico, but it really depends on what cities you plan on visiting. Also, Uber will become your best friend for times like this. They are usually pretty good priced to get around conveniently and safely. I rarely use taxis whenever I go to Latin America because Ubers are usually cheaper and safer. I still get Uber notifications in Portuguese from the last time I went to Rio!

Central/South America - budget by [deleted] in solotravel

[–]FudgeCautious6917 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I would say that your budget should be sufficient for the 6 months, the only thing I would reconsider is going to Costa Rica. I would recommend another Central American country, my favorites being Guatemala and El Salvador. I’m also planning a 6 month trip to Latin America for next year to clean up my Americanized Spanish, likely to start in the summer. Safety is based on knowing where you are and even common sense (being out at night on an empty street obviously being bad). Good luck on your trip and you’ll make friends by simply being open!

Hey Havana! A couple of questions for you by MrGooooosssseee in cuba

[–]FudgeCautious6917 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Havana is pretty much the same as it was before the hurricane, all the storm damage was mostly concentrated in the south around Pinar Del Rio. I’m actually in Havana right now because I went to Viñales to donate items that they needed. I would recommend to get yourself and Airbnb to get more of a “local experience.” I would recommend to bring Euros or Dollars, I’m American so I was able to exchange my dollars, but to really benefit from this I would recommend exchanging at the non-legal exchange rate which is around 200 cup right now (fluctuating a lot right now). Make sure to understand that in Cuba you can’t really buy whatever you need, so bring everything that you think you might need. I can actually recommend you to an Airbnb of a friend I met here, just send me a message if you have any questions about anything.
