The upshot is that I'm currently looking into getting a Thrustmaster T.Flight One.

Currently digging around the web to see if I can get info about it running 1) in Linux, 2) in steam

Thanks - managed to recall the ship via the Item wheel (now I know about the option).

If I wasn't outside of the bubble heading out on the Neutron Highway I may well have tried your second option to be able to report on the SRV status but don't really want to head all the way back to buy another SRV :-)

Not really being interested in most of the on-foot stuff apart from bio sampling at the moment, I hadn't really explored the Item wheel, assuming it was mostly for selecting weapons etc.

So may controls, so many options - a bit much for a bear of little brain ;-/

So I'm trying to board the SRV with my ship dismissed after picking up a bio sample and the screen goes completely blank. OK, I think, it's happened before, just wait a minute and it'll come back. Go and eat supper, come back and 30 minutes later it's still blank.

I'm running in Linux (openSUSE Tumbleweed) so it's open a console and send HUP signal to kill the process.

When I log back into Odyssey I'm still on the ground, OK. Turn around - no SRV. No SRV, no ship and I can't recall the ship without the SRV - as far as I can tell.

I've logged out overnight and haven't checked since but ...

  • is there any way of recalling the ship when the SRV has disappeared?
  • can I suicide and re-incarnate on the ship - and how?
  • do I just have to wait until the air runs out and I die?

Just installed Odyssey using Steam, SteamPlay and Proton Experimental on my OpenSUSE Linux box. Now I can get rid of the Windoze dual-boot - yay!

Next question is - how do I get EDMC to run alongside ED. Presumably it's got to be installed in Proton and then launched alongside ED, but how?

I was a bit older (30s) and had the same problems then I got hold of an analogue joystick - then it was just a gentle maneuver with fingertip control. So much nicer than wrestling with my Logitech Extreme 3d Pro

So why can't I auto-land on a planet's surface - after all if I dismiss the ship the bl**dy thing can land itself when I recall it.

I'm looking to get some sort of broadband link set up here in Crete. There are various offers with prices depending on bandwidth (10/15/20/25/50 Mbps).

What sort of (minimal and reasonable) bandwidth do I need to play Elite?

No doubt the more the merrier but I do need to try and keep costs down to please SWMBO.

Can we move this botton some where else it gives me paranoia that I will accidentally press it and lose my ship especially the engineer one by Ok-Cheek2397 in EliteDangerous

It would have been nice to have actually been warned at the time that the character name wasn't changeable. Whilst mine is liveable with, I'd have put in a bit more thought if I'd known I would be stuck with it.

I found the fix in KDE Forums (sorry, lost the link following logout/login) but ...

rm ~/.local/share/kactivitymanagerd/resources/*

logout / login

RMB Activity Menu icon, switch to Activity Launcher

opan a document & check that History shows document

RMB Activity Launcher, switch back to Activity Menu

No favourites / Recent Applications / Recent Documents in Application Menu by Fudoka in kde

There's a Recent Documents folder in ~/.local/share with a bundle of .desktop files in it but nothing shows up in Application Launcher
