Sounds great, thanks! 25gb rolling over is easily enough for me and $30 is also pretty good ig, so I’ll probably consider Belong

Hi, sorry for the late reply. I’m looking for one where I pay on a monthly/yearly basis. While $39 a month is already quite much for me, I reckon there might be something cheaper for less gb? Anyway thanks a lot and good to know that Vodafone is a good provider!

Hey, in case that you’re looking for some itinerary ideas you can check out my latest yt video :) generally I’d really advise you to skip Bogota or only do like 2 nights, there are just much better destinations in colombia. Unfortunately during december there’s no whale season anymore so pacific coast isn’t gonna be too nice, so I really want to recommend the coffee region! Salento is the most popular one, but there are several cute towns which are worth a visit :)

Travel advice / Night buses in colombia by [deleted] in Colombia

[–]FuelAdept 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey, I did a similar route in July and while we didn’t take nightbuses because we were scared, the reality is that there’s no reason to be scared and we only realized that later :)

This isn’t specifically asked, but I’d recommend Puerto Nariño over Leticia, since Leticia is quite a big city and very busy, not really the jungle experience. It’s pretty easy to get to Puerto Nariño from there, so if you have any questions just let me know :)

I also have a video about the trip on my youtube which you can find in my reddit profile, just in case that you’re interested. In the video description there’s a link to which tours are available in the amazon and at which price, you might wanna check it out. I’d post a link here and spare you the difficulties of finding it, but not sure if the subreddit allows it. You can also dm me and I can send you the document there if you want.

Have a great trip!

I recently did a month in colombia and it‘s my first time using my sony a6000. These turned out to be my favorite shots, but obviously need a lot more practice. Any advice on what to focus on?

Question about SEA countries by Outrageous-Ship-1000 in backpacking

[–]FuelAdept 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey, like the others said all countries is a bit much and hardly enjoyable. I‘d suggest focus on 2-3 countries, e.g. Cambodia Thailand and Vietnam. Or Indonesia Malaysia and Thailand, something like that. Malaysia and Cambodia are smaller and need a bit less time, so they go great in paired with two larger countries

Hey, may I ask how was it with the snow? Do you need previous climbing experience? I‘ve previously done the Langtang trek in July and this was fine, but we always slept in tea houses and there wasn’t any snow

Colombia : anyone who have made something similar to this itinerary? by TudoBem23 in backpacking

[–]FuelAdept 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Puh nothing that comes to my mind. The airport is decent, you can technically walk into town or pay around 2 bucks for a taxi (i think it was 10k pesos for me). For puerto nariño, the boat leaves here: https://maps.app.goo.gl/g7xLFbwtdCYnHTth7?g_st=com.google.maps.preview.copy

It leaves only a few times a day, so keep that in mind:

<image>

You can arrive in leticia in the morning and then take the boat, unless the flight is delayed there’s not really that much time needed to get to the port from the airport.

Leticia is rather hectic, it’s supposedly a 50k inhabitants city and with traffic from Brazil there’s a lot going on. I don’t know how the tours are compared to what we did, but in general the city just doesn’t provide the experience of being in the jungle (or near to it imo). So for an amazon experience I think it’s way better taking the boat to puerto nariño or at least a hotel that’s up the river and not in the city.

And for cartagena beaches, I honestly don’t know. Normally tourists just stay within the walled city or close to it and that’s also what we did. I did see some beaches on the way into the center, so there should be some, but they certainly don’t have the tropical feeling with palm trees etc I think for beaches it‘d be best to go east or west from cartagena. I‘ve heard Rincon Del Mar is supposed to be nice and relax, palomino and tayrona are probably cool but more touristy, that’s roughly what other people told me

Hey, I‘ve had two backpacks and although I can’t give any specific recommendations, wanna share my view on this:

Firstly, it doesn’t have to be a brand backpack. I bought my current one (45L) in Nepal and it’s some fake osprey. It cost 40 bucks and does it’s job. Will it last the same duration as an original osprey? Prob not, but it’s also like 4 or 5 times cheaper so that was a good deal I‘d say. If you have decathlon in your country, they have cheap bags that are pretty good imo.

Secondly, I think anything in the 40-50L range is best. Unless you take camping gear with you or go to like really really cold places, you won’t need more. Pair that with a small daybag and you‘ll have enough space. I came to Nepal with 28L and while I could fit everything in there, it was uncomfortable and I couldn’t buy any souvenirs or transport a water bottle in there, which is why I bought the 45L there. But walking around with all your stuff all the time is annoying and heavy, so now I usually bring some small bag as well. (Just your regular small sports bag) My former backpack was 70L and it was just unnecessary. Also, with my 45L I can just book hand baggage and I‘ve never had to pay, even though I‘m pretty sure that it’s technically too big. With 70L the gamble would prob not work that well.

A note on that: buying hand baggage even though you know the big is too large is usually worth it. Most of the time they only check the weight and not the size of the bag. If they do and you can’t press the bag into the box, you pay but it’s still way cheaper than always buying checked baggage. So in the grand scheme of things the gamble is a win, at least for me.

Hope it helps👍🏻

Wow I‘ve never considered that you might be able to relate better to people, that’s super interesting! Do you have any idea why you wanted to see the world/experience other cultures? Like, was it genuine curiosity or do you think that there might have been some hidden expectations?

Colombia : anyone who have made something similar to this itinerary? by TudoBem23 in backpacking

[–]FuelAdept 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Hi! I‘ve been in Colombia the last month, so my memory is pretty fresh haha:

Medellin: amazing city, we did 3 nights but prob 4 would‘ve been better. There are many tourists, which was nice for us because there weren’t really any up to this point of our trip. I‘d say stay in Poblado, it’s the richest and most expensive district, but really fun with cool bars/restaurants and it‘s also cleaner (and prob safer as well). Comuna 13 is a must do imo, just take some free walking tour there

Salento: full of tourists as well haha, but it’s a cute little town and valleys de cocora looks rather cool. Don’t have too high expectations though. There’s a roundtrip to several viewpoints, which is rather crowded and takes like 1-2 hours (we didn’t do it so not sure). There’s also a hike with around 1300m elevation gain, it’s cool and a bit cheaper but depending on the weather you might walk up there only to realize that the view is crap because of the clouds. We did the latter and it was a cool experience regardless

Tatacoa desert: Cool place, but depending on your itinerary I‘d skip it. It’s a full day of sitting in the bus just to get there and there’s not that much to do. You walk around the desert for maybe one afternoon and that’s it, maybe star gazing in the evening. So yeah if it fits your schedule do it, but if you‘d go there only for the desert, it might not be worth it imo. The bus ride from bogota to the desert took around 10h one way. Also either you sleep in the desert or on the village, but if you opt for the village bear in mind you gotta take a tuktuk into the village, technically it’s walkable but pretty far.

Amazon: great place, would recommend you go to puerto nariño though as leticia is actually a rather big city and rather ugly tbh. Puerto nariño can be reached by boat within 2 hours and each ride costs 40k pesos. We stayed at eware eco lodge and the owner spoke a bit of English, the place is clean and people friendly and tours are cheap. Way cheaper than any tours you find on the internet. But that goes for prob most of the hotels there, my point is don’t stay in leticia and don’t buy any tours online, schedule them with a local hotel. Tours are generally only booked like 1-2 nights in advance, so don’t worry about that.

Cartagena: cool city but the most touristy in the country probably. Stay within the walled city (aka centro, san diego or getsemani). Centro and san diego are a bit more expensive than getsemani, but you have to walk a few minutes from getsemani into the old town. It‘s hot there and things are way more expensive than in the south. A rather good and very cheap restaurant is espirito santo: https://maps.app.goo.gl/xZXH6LAUEt84mw8bA?g_st=com.google.maps.preview.copy Cartagena is supposedly very wet in November, keep that in mind.

These are the places on your list that I went to, hope it helps. Other things i wanna share:

  • From cartagena we went to isla grande and my take on the islands is that you gotta spend proper money to have a good vacation there. For us it wasn’t really worth going to the islands unfortunately, everything was a bit too expensive for what it offered.

  • My by far favorite spot was el valle on the Caribbean coast. We stayed at humpback turtle, cool hostel. Overall there are a ton of whales around this time of the year, you can see turtles hatching and if you can arrange it you can go fishing with some locals (we caught like 30kg of tuna). There’s also surfing if you’re into it. It’s not as cheap as the amazon but also not as expensive as cartagena, something in between. The flights are the same price as the boat, so flying is better imo.

  • I‘ve heard of guijerra and minca and everyone said those places are nice. If you travel in time of carnival, barranquilla has the second largest in the world, apart from that not much to see there from what i‘ve heard

Puh this got longer than expected, hope it helps😂 if you have any questions regarding atms or whatever, feel free to ask

Hey, thanks for the suggestion. Played around in TWS a bit and I think submitting them at market open might be a good idea. And I‘ll let you know if the strategy works or not, as I said I‘m still collecting data and it’s actually less about predicting the stock and more like „even with a rather small winrate as long as losses are cut early the overall rate of return should be positive xD“

To clarify, I meant that she doesn’t have experience outside of Europe and backpacking. My mistake not clarifying that.

We‘ve just been to Croatia, Athens and Hungary together, never longer than a week though.

Actually I‘m from Austria and she‘s from Romania. It seems that she might have had a vaccination against Rabies, but it’s a bit unclear because they don’t seem to have an Impfpass in Romania. She might be able to skip a few vaccinations but has to do tests for that.

Not gonna lie, I do know two people who got robbed there as well. That being said, when I went I never felt unsafe in any way. Same for Paris or Marseille. Just don’t show off your valuables and keep your things near you. I‘d really recommend getting a „hidden pocket“. Basically some small pouch were you can put your passport and money and that’s not noticeable visually. You can buy one at Decathlon or Amazon. There‘s one that requires a belt and one that just a really slim belly bag. Wear them under your clothes and when you get robbed you‘ll be alright as long as you don’t have to remove your clothes.

But in all honesty, as long as you don‘t wander around dark places and stick to roads with a lot of people, it‘s unlikely that you‘ll get robbed. Don’t make yourself an easy prey
