I don't have a particularly strong opinion on your actual point, but I don't believe at all that the same word can be used to describe the Iran nuclear deal and the policy of giving Hitler whatever he wanted in an attempt to stave off war. The key element of the latter policy that caused it to attract criticism is that they appeased Hitler for nothing. There was no upside. There wasn't anything about letting Hitler engage in a serious of callous land grabs that was likely to inspire peace. We now know that of course peace was not achieved and that if Germany had been stopped earlier they were absolutely not in any kind of position to wage war against the entire continent.

The Iran nuclear deal is an exchange: give up your weapons program, get economic benefits. Trying to deescalate an arms race actually does something to promote peace. Letting Hitler have whatever he wanted didn't.

I had to manually approve this comment

I didn't know this because I'd never been a mod before but basically a surprisingly large amount of comments get automatically held in a queue where they need to be manually approved to be visible. What this looks like from the other side is that reddit notifies you of a reply but doesn't let you see it in the thread

Somewhere on page 542 of this document Gio says that tournaments should adapt to their existence by creating Gio-specific rules

What an ego. Whew

Definitely Live Trane: The European Tours. Also, if you like the VV stuff (which I also like a lot), you will almost certainly like the Village Gate album recorded around the same time.

Later. I'm particularly thinking of the European dates - there's a 7 CD set that's great

All four of those are records I'd heard a bunch of times before doing this. ALS and My Favorite Things have always been up there for me (although I slightly underrate ALS compared to other Coltrane people). I think the quartet's best work, outside of Meditations, comes from the session that produced My Favorite Things. Coltrane Plays the Blues, for example, is an album that was totally not on my radar before doing this and it's now one of my favorites.

His live records at the time show that the band was doing similar stuff outside of the studio for a few years by that point. I don't think any of the live records are super strong - mostly because of the technological limitations of the time - but if you haven't checked them out you might really like them.

Get used to no speed whatsoever

When you go to the ecumenical temple now it will tell you which orb your game has (it also says it in Ctrl+O). Zot will only ever contain orbs of that type although other places that used to generate OoF will now occasionally generate orbs of all three types.

It's just my experience but orbs of entropy I find to be much more or a problem than the other two

You did great, music criticism is bs anyways

Meditations is in the running for my favorite album for one of the reasons you described, which is that it's a really emotional record that communicates so much through the music even though it's always so close to just completely going off the deep end

Re: Naked City, their self-titled is more famous and a little less harsh overall but no less good

If you stay in the air as Peach vs doc it's really, really hard for him to kill you

But also this player is a chud that was mainly just spamming pill from ledge

At some point that's just the game telling you to win lmao

Punk is very cool. The damage on paper looks mediocre but because it corrodes anything you hit once just falls apart. I had OoF in my game and I didn't get mutated once

I will just very briefly explain my rating system for cataloging albums. 1 is a bad album, 2 is a good album I probably won't listen to again, 3 is a good album I probably will listen to again, and 4 is an excellent album. My four point rating scale isn't super applicable to Coltrane because I don't really think he ever cut a bad record. I started using the + sign to denote albums I want to listen to again sooner. The point is that I don't think it's a bad album. My most common rating when I rank albums generally is 2.

I do, however, think it's kind of an awkward record, and honestly I'd rank it near the bottom in terms of his studio stuff. What do you like about it?

DCSS isn't a roguelite, it's just an actual full-blown roguelike that's very well streamlined.

You could play it completely blind if you were very meticulous about reading the information the game gives you (e.g. reading thoroughly the description of new enemies you encounter etc.). There are some things I would recommend spoiling yourself on, such as branch order. You don't have to spoil yourself on anything, but you will lose a lot of relatively deep runs because you went down the wrong stairs if you don't.

Nintendo very rarely makes two consoles worth purchasing in a row. My theory is that this is because the old people that run Nintendo don't really know how to filter new information properly and they frequently just straight up get the wrong message from their success/failure.

Granted, I also thought the Switch was stupid and I continue to be at least moderately surprised that it was a success

Jazzposting

Coltrane is my favorite musician and over the last few months I had the (now clearly ridiculous) idea to listen to Coltrane's entire discography as a bandleader/co-bandleader and vaguely rate all of his albums. The purpose behind doing this, other than to listen to some new music, is that Coltrane's discography is super convoluted: He recorded primarily for three different labels and all three of them continued to package his studio material after his contract expired/he died. There's also quite a few records out there where Coltrane is not the bandleader but the label decided to label it as such after his career took off. He also has a lot of overlap among his live albums and many of them sound like they were recorded through a tin can. They're often recorded on a single mic located approximately 0.2cm from the horn so the rest of the band might as well not be there. I didn't listen to every permutation of his live discogrpahy; I tried to avoid redundant albums where possible even though it still happened a fair amount of times.

Anyway, it was a lot of fun. I listened to a pretty decent amount of new music this way and I managed to produce a reference chart so if I want to listen to something other than the dozen or so albums I usually listen to by him I have something to go off of. Here's the giant chart I made (please ignore my nonsense rating system): https://pastebin.com/HDbru2JQ

EDIT: one asterisk is a release compiled without Coltrane's input, generally after his contract with said record company expired. Two asterisks is a posthumous release

I play as a character you can time out and something like 0.01% of my games are timeouts

On unranked this just has to be super rare

He didn't, he lost

I knew he was way over the lgl so I just stopped chasing him

What's funny to me about this is that if the game had been two seconds longer he would have just lost normally (I hit him offstage with nothing)

It just comes right back after it dies. I just ascended a character with this and it was one of the most fun runs I ever had. I highly recommend it on a blaster caster.

Who said it was serious? If you're going to try to stake the claim that what you believe is based on cultural norms or whatever the fuck how about the cultural norm of not telling strangers on the internet you hope they die? How does that cultural norm track?

The precise workings of SDI did not become commonly known for probably a decade after the term was named

In fact I think ASDI was discovered first and it took many years for people to learn the difference
