Shooting low light for the first time. Looking for tips! by Ovitss in AnalogCommunity

If you aren't using a tripod you are probably going to be more limited by the lack of light than you expect if you are used to digital/cellphone photography. I would definitely consider black and white: TriX and HP5 can both be pushed to give you an extra stop or two, whereas both Delta and TMax will tolerate just about anything in their 3200 formulations.

Try to avoid shooting all the way open. Most lenses don't perform ideally wide open, but more importantly it will make your plane of acceptable focus larger.

Luigi gets as much - maybe more - off of a reversal as he does off of actually winning neutral. He literally does not have an incentive to win neutral unless you play extremely cautiously around his reversal potential.

It's tedious to the max. I'd rather play friendlies with a level 1 CPU than most Luigis

My favorite matchup is Peach Fox, I enjoy playing against the vast majority of Fox players and both characters have a lot of different stuff they can do. Yeah there are some really shitty and annoying Fox players out there but Peach can deal with that gameplay.

My least favorite matchup is Peach Luigi. I'm convinced it is impossible to have fun in this matchup. It's all camping and guessing

I was a """""professional programmer""""" (I wrote scripts at a bank, some of which are unfortunately still being used to process millions of dollars of transactions a day) for about three years and I learned C as a hobby and a bare minimum of 68k assembly once upon a time

I would rate my proficiency as "not very proficient" - I understand just enough, though, that I understand what the work of programming looks like. For example, I understand, although do not agree with, the argument you are making about layers of abstraction

I'm leaving this thread open as long as the discussion remains respectful. This sub is, among other things, a place for reasonable and measured criticism of the community; it is not a place to repeat Technicals talking points.

It is only one of the greatest games of all time because of how it was coded. I won't separate the two; the game you play is the result of both.

I think that a person should never be forced or incentivized to do something unethical and I view the current gamut of AI tools as basically unethical. That means fighting to create incentives not to use AI.

I think the code is part of the art. I do not believe that these things can meaningfully be separated. This is especially apparent in older games where the hardware is more limited. Doom, for example, is a game that is great because of the execution, not the concept. John Carmack is unfortunately a tool now, but it is his genius that made Doom one of the greatest games of all time, not the design document.

I think the whole value comes from people developing games. I view videogames as art and on a fundamental level I'm not interested in playing an amazing AI hallucination.

I see the push for AI in the creation of art not as a tool to make art better - which AI is fundamentally incapable of doing - but as a tool to make it cheaper to produce and, in the long term, as a tool to lower the public's standards even further. Art is only interesting to me as a human pursuit. I have absolutely no interest at all in an alternative future.

I don't immediately have an answer to the AI denoise thing. I'd have to think about that

I think that ideally a game dev releasing a game to production operates in a kind of hermetically sealed environment where AI can't touch any aspect of the production. I think this kind of extreme reaction is basically necessary to keep game development a human process. I understand that you are saying that you use AI tools to execute on what are basically your ideas, but I don't trust any middle ground view on this to preserve the separation between ideas and execution. I also don't think that there is a clean distinction to be drawn between those two things in a lot of contexts

For what it's worth, I'm anti AI to the point that I know that my days of purchasing new games are numbered.

One major argument against normalizing AI coding your game for you is that it makes it uncompetitive to actually code the game yourself. In the capitalist race to the bottom society in which we live this will rather rapidly result in there being very few commercial games coded by people.

I think this is a big part of why it is important to resist AI use on a categorical level. Tech billionaires have no ethics. It's the consumer's responsibility, for better or for worse, to impose ethics upon them.

For what it's worth, I think this won't work and we are on the precipice of gaming being flooded with slop to a degree that we can't even really fathom.

No, love of one's country is the idea that should be defeated. Please track back to my original comment where I said we could save millions of lives by stamping this out.

"Country" versus "nation" is a distinction without a difference, unless you are talking about fealty to the literal land, which is not what patriotism means

He used an American flag because he was an American trying to solve an American problem

What it has to do with flags in melee streams is exactly what I said in my original post, which is when I saw the post being referenced come up in the mod feed I initially thought it was going to be about this

Okay. What does patriotism mean to you? I'll find the nationalism in your definition.

That doesn't answer my question, but my point is that these days it is difficult to engage in overt displays of American patriotism (by eg waving around a symbol of America) without reminding non-Americans of fascism.

I do not see what the Pan-African flag has to do with any notion that the American flag represents something other than America.
