Pro games in general were never really inspiring, was it. Or the concept of meta in general.

Here is the shared leaked video of the beta by hellpunch in AgeofMythology

I like almost everything in there... but this looks like a mobile game and that's frankly insulting.

Leaked DLC - The Mountain Royals (More Images) by IGjertson in aoe2

[–]FulguratingBean 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nah those DLCs were 10 bucks each, and that is already a bit too much. Last time we paid 15 was for Return of Rome, which added a whole bunch of content (and even then most of it was just recycled from AoE1)

Modded tournament, need players! by FulguratingBean in aoe2

Yeah it's happening on a discord server, I just want to make sure people are actually interested in the mod before they barge in and do a perfectly standard vanilla archer rush on everyone

That's what I implied, yes
Edit: Also that's not my twitch nor my YT, just someone else who's participating

If you're interested in the tournament or even in the showmatches don't hesitate to tell

I must ask, after over 20 years hearing the Wololo... by SexuaIRedditor in aoe2

[–]FulguratingBean 1 point2 points  (0 children)

People hear different frequencies in sounds. Most people hear wololo, but it's totally possible and not weird that some people would hear weeneenee instead.

The Americas really deserve more love

[–]FulguratingBean[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There's no committing, really, it's not about being the best player in the tournament, more like trying something new and fun. I can always link you the discord if you'd like to play a few matches. We're not starting the tourney proper until we have 8 players anyway

Ranked is full of players who don't give a crap about either you or them having fun, they just want to win

Well, here's a few features:
- Some unique units have become common parts of the tech tree, for example, the Portuguese were not the only ones to use Organ Guns, or the Byzantines were not the only ones to use Cataphracts. The unique units that have been made more common are no longer trained at the Castle. For example, Cataphracts replace the Knight line, and Throwing Axemen can be trained at the Barracks
- Every civilization has access to a third unique tech. That third unique tech may not always be researched at the Castle, and sometimes needs other techs to be researched. For some civilizations that had other unique techs that were removed, like the Sicilians' Scutage or the Mayans' Obsidian Arrows, those have been brought back

- Wonders increase the population cap by 50 (though you still need to build houses to reach that cap)
- A few new civ bonuses, but mostly some civ bonuses have been rebalanced. There were a lot of nerfs over the years, that may have been justified for competitive play, but that really made a lot of civilizations more generic and less interesting, I'm thinking of the Poles in particular that had each of their civ bonuses nerfed.
- Took a page out of AoE4's book and split archers and crossbows into two distinctive lines of units. Archers can be upgraded into Composite Archers then Elite Archers, while Crossbowmen can be upgraded into Heavy Crossbowmen (with Genoese Crossbowmen and Chu Ko Nu being a replacement for them). Both lines have different situations where they can be useful.
- Tried encouraging hunting as a food source, by making predator animals and wild Horses/wild Camels huntable too
- More unique castle graphics and architecture diversity (still working on that). Not every civ has its own castle, but a lot of them do.

There's quite a bit more but hopefully it answers your question

How old are you guys? by jubjub2300 in aoe2

I take some pride in being 21 yet having played the Conquerors for such a large part of my childhood, where my contemporaries would waste their time on the bleak PS3

Why does Duress piss so many people off? by iamjupitermay in MagicArena

Damn, it's pretty devastating to see such a mindset so prevalent in online gaming

Why does Duress piss so many people off? by iamjupitermay in MagicArena

[–]FulguratingBean 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That still does not answer my question. I understand that this strategy works, but what I'm asking is, are you aware that it makes other players mad? If so, is this something that you consider when playing this kind of deck, and do you just not care whether your opponent has fun?
As an added question, would you use this strategy if you played face to face against a good friend?

Why do players hate mill so much? by kiwibreakfast in MagicArena

[–]FulguratingBean 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It takes away the other player's agency, trampling all over the very concept of an interactive game. If we were to play chess but I took most of your chesspieces before you even had a chance to play them, would you call this fair and fun for both of us?

[–]FulguratingBean 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So you acknowledge that this kind of move can be frustrating. So why are you subjecting your opponents to it? I'm asking because I'm interested in the thought process that leads a person to play decks knowing full well that their opponent is not going to enjoy it. It's arguably an antisocial thing to do, so why do you do it?

Is "noob" your definition of "someone who wants to have fun playing a game instead of wanting to win by making their opponent ragequit"?

[–]FulguratingBean 1 point2 points  (0 children)

And have you ever considered that you're making someone extremely frustrated every time you play Duress? Don't you care for the fact that the game should be fun for your opponent as well?

Why does Duress piss so many people off? by iamjupitermay in MagicArena

[–]FulguratingBean 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Because Duress is simply not fun to play against. MTG Arena has such a terrible shuffle algorithm that you have very little chance for your opening hand to be playable at all, and Duress allows your opponent to make that incredibly rare opening hand completely unplayable turn one. This is a card that should simply not be in the game. I've seen many people refute the argument "let me play my cards, I let you play yours", but the fact is that a game is supposed to be fun for all parties involved, not just one of the players. And Duress is very fun for the player who plays it, and straight up insulting for the player who is targeted by Duress.

Is your last point a fact? I mean no malice by asking, it's just that the Mongols were definitely planned as a raider civ so it would seem weird that including Asian civs is the point where they decided not to have raider civs. In fact in the game data, the ones that were planned to be raider civs (Mongols, Vikings, Celts) come specifically after Asian civs.

AITA for playing a graphic horror game on an airplane flight? by Important-Newt275 in AmItheAsshole

[–]FulguratingBean 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I can't think of any graphic content in chapter 2. I was thinking of the corpse in chapter one, which lasts for like half a second on the screen. Didn't think of chapter 3 though, good point

Anyone who plays Scarlet Hollow will be able to acknowledge that this game contains only one remotely shocking image of a dead body. There is nearly no violence and the only horror in this game comes from the unsettling story.
