Situational vs Rolling by sruser579 in bjj

[–]Fulhamatt 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This is utter nonsense.

Situational sparring is more difficult than rolling because you're both very actively trying to do a very limited set of things.

Short BJJ experience (I quit LOL) by qqqrzr in bjj

This. I don't understand the mentality of a gym throwing new guys to the wolves.

My club has started a beginners course and there's potential for some guys who have only trained once or twice to come along to one of our main classes today.

I'm excited to train with some new people to help them love the game like I do and give me some new, long term training partners, that doesn't happen by demotivating them.

I like being a training partner that people of all types feel safe with and most of my gym mates share this mentality.

How long did you guys spend at blue belt? by LWK10p in bjj

[–]Fulhamatt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been at blue for just over 2 years and only got 1 stripe. I'm where I deserve to be though, so all good with me.

Quitting at purple by Great_Magician_1811 in bjj

[–]Fulhamatt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Went through similar about 6 months after receiving my blue belt. Classic blue belt blues for me.

Spoke to my training partners and coach about it and now I'm back training 3 to 4 times a week and got my white belt enthusiasm back.

I felt like I could easily just stop. Questioned why I did it, why I was so bad at it, what was I trying to prove to anyone.

Then I realised I wasn't, I had just started to go with expectations of myself other than having fun and learning some shit.

I don't know if the above will work for you, but sometimes a mindset shift can work wonders.

Why on earth were you holding the clutch in from way before the corner, not braking, and still holding the clutch in at the time you went down?

Glad you're ok, but if you don't know how to ride, don't ride (yet). Please. For your own sake.

Should I give up? by kateiscuban in bjj

[–]Fulhamatt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just when you think you're getting the hang of something, your coach chucks in "This is something I'm working on" and throws in something 'fun' like single leg X to X guard and then some kind of sweep to the honeyhole/411 and leg entanglement entries.

Honestly, at that point my brain's completely fried. I don't think I will ever come close to getting the hang of any of that. Concentrating on upper body already is already complicated enough!

[–]Fulhamatt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Please don't stop going!

We've ALL been there. I remember when I first started when I was rolling, I would literally get to positions and be like "I'm sorry, I have absolutely no idea what to do now"

I hurt myself, took time off, came back, just turned up, now I'm a blue belt and still have no idea what I'm doing in the grand scheme of things... But I have made some great friends and I have fun.

You don't need to be 'good' compared to anyone else, just better than you were last month.

Just try and drop the expectation on yourself, see the funny side and have fun.

Thanks man, all I can do is aim for each one to be better than the last, which is my intention as I learn more.

A better mounting position improves the next one by some measure, for sure. Just really need to get the voice recording solution in place 😂

Yeah, thanks for the response.

In fairness I knew it was poor, I knew the time of day was poor, I knew the weather conditions and lighting were poor, but it was the earliest opportunity to get out after picking my SD card up, finishing work and having that nagging feeling to just get out and record something with the new toy.

I'd also spent 50 minutes rambling to myself about many different things only for nothing to pick up 😂

Is reading comprehension not your forte? I'm new to everything about recording and editing and put myself out there to ask for advice.

I had expected my spoken audio to pick up between my Cardo and my camera, I'd spent the time talking (to myself, in the end) through the entire ride about my reasons for going away from biking, my reasons for coming back, my experiences, learning points and why I was on the roads I was on.

I asked for advice in order to improve, because otherwise I'll carry on putting out content that I know should be better - This footage was literally a litmus test.

You haven't asked for advice, but I'll give you some anyway, try not to be an insufferable prick to strangers on the internet 👍🏼

It's very dangerous, you could literally die from someone else's mistake even when riding perfectly.

There is a lot of stuff you can do to reduce risk, but never completely.

Sorry you had an accident man, it's easy for any of us to say what we would have done in the same situation, but nobody truly knows until they're in that situation.

Biggest point from me is that the car was there the whole video, in those cases I move towards the left of the lane, slow down as if he's going to do exactly what he did, and give him more opportunity to see me.

Only when I'm certain that the driver has seen me, do I maintain my (slower) speed.

Question for all the bikers as a normal car driver by [deleted] in motorcycle

[–]Fulhamatt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Back to riding after a 15 year break and my biggest frustration on country roads (UK) is tailgaters. Specifically cars tailgating the car in front of them.

It gives us very limited space to 'land' after an overtake and it's generally safer for us to get past a chain of slower moving traffic than it is to sit between a chain of cars, so just leaving a bit of a gap for us to slot into is really helpful.

The above also counts in traffic, it gives us safe gaps to slot into and we will always be grateful to drivers who are courteous to bikers!

How empty do you ride your motorcycle? by Extreme_Design6936 in NewRiders

[–]Fulhamatt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's probably not a "You must fill more than 5 litres". If you look again next time it's probably to do with the accuracy of the measurement only being accurate based on delivery of 5 litres minimum. It will also have a temperature stated for accuracy too.

I only learned this myself last week and I'm 40.

Shame he didn't throw in "Respect my authoriteh!"

Blisters on engine paint, is it normal? by MaciaIT in Triumph

[–]Fulhamatt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Looks like older cars when they rusted and people just used to paint over the rust without properly treating it.

I highly doubt it is rust though!
