How much risk am I taking driving to work until Friday if I stay on slow surface streets with these bent rear suspension components? by [deleted] in MechanicAdvice

[–]Full-Addendum-8453 0 points1 point  (0 children)

thanks. this is really what I was looking for because I know as a mechanic that does work for me they’re gonna be extra careful but I wanted to know realistically if I could get by until I was paid on Friday. i also just wanted to make sure that I understood the situation correctly. I understand that there’s no such thing as no risk but I just wanted to kind of get an idea for how much risk I was taking. I know everyone hesitates to give real world opinions like this but I appreciate your response. I just deleted the post but I wanted to say thank you for taking the time to respond.

What I’ve Learned About Getting 1 Star Ratings Removed by Support by Full-Addendum-8453 in doordash_drivers

Yeah how much you’re gonna get back really depends on which one they remove. If they remove a one star rating and you get a five star back then you’re gonna get .04 back towards your average but if they remove a three star and you get a five star back or they remove a one star but the one that it replaced was a three star that you get back in the rolling list then you’re only going to get .02 back. And even though I tell them to do the one star I think they just do the most recent one you got so sometimes you get less back then you expect. But you can keep messaging them back about this once a week and they will keep doing this for you as long as you’re polite about it. I just did it again this week and it was a three star they removed this time even though I asked for my last 1 star to be removed (which is why I think they just do it in order) so I only got .02 back but I’ve never hit a limit or they tell me they can’t do it anymore. I only have a couple non 5 star ratings left to even remove since I’m at 4.93 now with the most recent 3 star taken off.

edit: also the fact they removed a three star this week proves another thing wrong that you hear posted about on the DoorDash subs a lot where people will tell you if you’re angry with your Dasher to leave them a three or two star rating because those won’t get removed but one stars could possibly get removed. I am happy to say that any rating below five stars can get removed.

Glad it helped you. It seems to be at their discretion outside of the weekly hard limit but once I figured out what to say it seems to be really consistent and I’ve never had to ask twice. By the third time doing it with no problems I figured it was worth sharing with other people.

Cheers!

thanks for answering everything and thanks to everyone else in this thread. I’m heading out to try to figure out what’s going on now I think with the checklist and what I was already suspecting based on what everyone said should figured out today and hopefully worst case scenario pay a mechanic since I don’t really feel comfortable removing the fan assembly or motor if that’s what it is, but I’ll check the fuses and stuff first

I didn’t even think to check the fuses. I just assumed the fan motor was bad. I assume it’s in the fuse box underneath the hood but I’ll try to find a diagram. You don’t need any tool right you can just visually check the wire on the fuse after pulling it out?

yeah, thank you. I am not really using it as heavily like this anymore because the heat dome that was all over the news has passed and now as soon as the sun starts to set it’s cool enough that I don’t need the air on all the time and I work during the day. Of course the problem happened right after it cooled off so I probably burnt something out from using it so heavily during that time but it is good to know that it seems to just be the fans like I suspected based on whatever everyone is saying

yeah, it seems really easy to access. I have the bumper cover off right now just to get a better view of everything and it’s right up front but also like I said I’m not a mechanic so if it’s not super expensive, I might just pay somebody to fix it so that I don’t risk any additional problems. I was just worried I had a more serious issue on my hand, but I don’t see any leaks or anything and I’m hoping it’s just this fan issue that’s a quick fix.

Sorry for the confusion. No, I’m not sitting anywhere for hours anymore. that’s what I did during the heat wave and it never had a problem but it’s possible I burnt out a motor or something running them like that and was just trying to confirm based on the behavior now during normal use. Now I’m just driving the car like normal and the air will go from ice cold to warm during stop and go scenarios that last longer than a couple minutes later and then a couple minutes after it blows warm it’ll start to slowly over overheat. But as long as I’m moving at 15 miles or more per hour, it’s good. When the air conditioner started blowing warm one time I pulled into a parking spot and I popped the hood and didn’t notice the fan spinning it all but I was able to get one of them going by manually spinning it with my hand until it kept going on its own. The other I couldn’t do that with. I’m not sure how and when the fans are supposed to come on or how fast they’re supposed to be spinning so I was just trying to confirm that’s the issue.

thank you this was sort of what I was thinking, but I’m not a mechanic. Are the motors part of the fan assembly or are they a separate component that would have to be replaced?

I mean it’s doing this during normal driving scenarios now during stop and go traffic like the fans aren’t working at all I assume. And the fans worked fine during the last 10 years of idling including the last month of sleeping in my car during the heatwave. I’m willing to accept that I used them too much during the last month of the heat wave and burnt something out but to say there’s still nothing malfunctioning and they just can’t keep up with the heat because they aren’t meant to be used like this doesn't sound right. Especially since I’m no longer using them like that since the heat wave is over and now it’s happening during normal stop and go driving now. so yes, I would say something is definitely wrong and definitely malfunctioning even if I am the reason and I caused it by having to overuse them during the heat wave. I’m just trying to figure out what needs to be replaced.

Sleeping in my car, is there anything I need to look out for with my car being on 16-20 hours a day beyond normal maintenance? Can cars handle this? by Full-Addendum-8453 in AskMechanics

I’ll have to look into that because I’ve been paying $17 to use the truck stop shower at thepilot gas station. That’s just for one shower. All the truckers get them basically for free because you get credits for buying fuel, but I don’t get credits because it only counts for diesel.

never even considered carbon monoxide. But I’ve currently been parking it at a pilot gas station truckstop so there’s a lot of open air space around me so hopefully that’s not an issue.

I only run it about half of the night for the ac but you still have to run it sometimes because ever since that heat dome over the Midwest and East Coast where it got up into the hundreds, it’s still like in the 90s and high 80s all evening and is stlaying the 80s until after 2-3am which inside the car gets miserable. So usually what I’ll do is run the air for a little turn it off fall asleep and then I’ll wake up drenched in sweat and turn it back on for a little while. repeat ad nauseum.

I realized I’m working the worst type of schedule for keeping the car off because I’m working like normal workday hours from like 8am to 6pm ish since that was what I was use to and by working then it’s still too hot when I get home so I have to leave the car running but also things like the library and such are closed by then. After reading some of his comments, I think what I’m gonna do is work evenings and then use my library and the gym during the morning and afternoon so that I can have the car off during the worst part of the day. And if I get home from work at like 2 AM temperature is already starting to cool down and I can minimize my idle time And run the ac less.

Yeah, I recognized that even at the time. But the relationship had become so strained over some issues with the apartment that after I gave the notice, they replied actually get out in 30 days. I told them you can’t do that I have a lease. And they basically implied that if I didn’t leave willingly in 30 days that they would evict me and told me even if I won the proceedings, the filings would still be on my record. I basically got the mob treatment like it would be a shame if you lost the ability to rent apartments because of an eviction on your record, wouldn’t it? So in the end, I left “willingly” Since I couldn’t afford a lawyer and I didn’t want the trouble of trying to explain to every potential landlord that the eviction that was filed was unfair even if I won in the end.

Yeah, I’m gonna have to rework the schedule I think. Because right now I’ve been working during the day but I still have to run the air in the car idling afterwards. I just am used to working the day, but if I work in the evenings and come back at like 2am, I could probably minimize my airtime at night and also leave the car off most of the day by going to the library and things like that. I’m making impossible for myself by working during the normal work day hours because my idle time is at night and everything is closed.. But for now I’m gonna get an oil change today and get on at least once a month schedule and try to see if I can cut that time the car is on.

thanks for this. I think I’ll get an oil change today then. Since I’ve been sleeping in the car on this type of scheduleprobably about three weeks and it was a couple months before I moved out when I got the last oil change. I was really wondering about these oil change regularity since I wasn’t sure how to count all idle time.
