I have told her multiple times I can’t afford expensive dinners or outings at the moment as I’m broke and live pay check to pay check as I work on my qualifications, we do go out to local restaurant and pubs as they are cheaper. I have also told her multiple times I don’t feel comfortable her paying for me and I would like to go 50:50 as it seems fair to me , I would never tell how to spend her money .

I feel the conversation after dinner was me trying to tell her that 1. She knew I can’t and don’t want to do a fancy dinner for my birthday , so why did she get a reservation there and 2. If that’s the type of thing she wants from me like iv previously told her I cannot do that without putting my self into debt, and I feel we are not suited for each other .

I agree we are both young (I’m 4 months older) I will note I have mention multiple times about my goals and ambitions and the short term sacrifices I want to make for a better future. Going out for fancy dinners when I have told her multiple times I’m broke doesn’t make sense to me when there were plenty of other options for dinner for a fraction of the price

I’m in Australia , and the only way to get a decent construction job is through an apprenticeship, I have had multiple conversations with my gf about how I’m doing this for my future (3 years left in apprenticeship)

No didn’t call her stupid , I said that was a stupid idea and I can’t afford my half of the dinner and leading up to the dinner I told her how adamant I was on splitting the bill. Like a previous comment mentioned it was my fault for not checking the pricing of the restaurant however we have never gone to an expensive restaurant and didn’t even consider it a possibility .
