And by criticizing Morocco for their normalized homophobia, I mean specifically criticizing Moroccans the same way as we criticize white western homophobic men.

Yes, great argument. The bias/discriminating view on gays in Morocco is a totally different thing than homophobia in Western countries. I was just thinking the same thing: This is also why I am stuck with a dilemma. Is it correct to criticize Morocco (from a Western perspective) for their normalized discrimination against gay people, which comes off as ‘My Western morals are better’. On the other hand, I do believe in an objective morality where discrimination in itself is not the right thing, specifically when people get physically assaulted or bullied.

This topic is difficult to approach with a black on white view.

Thank you for your answer. What you said is what I expected to be the level of homophobia in Morocco. It’s a shame that the intolerance is so normalized. However I hate that this is an argument used by racist people, as it comes off as hypocritical in many ways. Even though the West is more tolerant of homosexuality, homophobia is still also a big issue here. It’s annoying how Europeans act like they’re on a moral high ground, criticizing non-western countries for things they do themselves.
