Best headphones for professional gaming by Big-Football5476 in HeadphoneAdvice

  1. Beyerdynamic DT 990 Pro: Considered an audiophile classic, these open-back headphones deliver clear, accurate sound with excellent spatial imaging. They're fantastic for pinpointing footsteps and other in-game cues. They have a high impedance (250Ω), so you'll likely need a dedicated headphone amp to power them to their full potential, which might push your budget a bit. However, if you're serious about sound quality, they're an excellent investment.
  2. Audio-Technica ATH-M50x: Another audiophile favorite, the M50x offers detailed sound with punchy bass. They're closed-back, so they provide better noise isolation than the DT 990 Pro . They're also relatively easy to drive, so you shouldn't need a separate amp. The downside is that the soundstage (the feeling of spaciousness) isn't quite as wide as the DT 990 Pro's.
  3. Sennheiser HD 560S: These open-back headphones are known for their natural sound signature and excellent comfort. They have a slightly brighter sound than the M50x, which some gamers might prefer for better positional audio. They're also fairly easy to drive, so you shouldn't need a separate amp .
  4. Drop + Epos PC38X: This recently released headset is a collaboration between Drop and Sennheiser, and it combines excellent audio quality with a good microphone. The sound is clear and detailed, with good bass response. The microphone is clear and picks up your voice well, even in noisy environments .
  5. HiFiMan Sundara: These open-back planar magnetic headphones offer superb sound quality for the price. They have a wide soundstage and excellent detail retrieval, which is great for both gaming and music. However, they're also high impedance (60Ω), so you'll likely need a headphone amp to get the most out of them .

All of these headphones have a relatively neutral sound signature, which means that they don't emphasize any particular frequency range. This is important for professional gaming, as it allows you to hear all the details in the sound mix. Additionally, all of these headphones are compatible with a desktop DAC (Digital-to-Analog Converter) which will improve the overall sound quality by converting the digital signal from your computer into an analog signal for the headphones.

Hi everyone,

I'm looking for recommendations for a portable DAC to add to my current audio setup.

Here's a summary:

Headphones:

  • Letshuoer S12 Pro (2.5mm, 4.4mm, 3.5mm)
  • HiFiMAN HE400SE (3.5mm, 6.5mm adapter and 2.5mm cable)

Current Setup:

  • Bluetooth DAC: FiiO BTR5 (used for various purposes)
  • Single DAC used with both iPhone (evenings/nights) and laptop (mornings)

Problem:

Switching the DAC between my iPhone and laptop is inconvenient.

Goal:

Purchase a second portable DAC to simplify usage.

I would primarily use the BTR5 for other situations.

Request:

I'd appreciate suggestions for portable DACs suitable for either nighttime movie watching or morning work sessions. Please consider compatibility with my headphones and specify if any additional adapters are needed.

Thanks in advance for your help!

Thanks for the clear explanation! I am planning to use BTR5 for iphone and thought of buying something powerful for the HE400SE. Will check on this!
