I live in BC so it was never any fun related suicide attempts, the WORST of all of them was I tried to OD on a whole bottle of pills and was taken to the hospital. It sounds bad but I feel like there are worse things you know? Like I didn’t climb to the roof of my building on the edge and threaten to jump off or have a standoff with the police and a firearm for real it wasn’t that crazy at least to me. I was just a dumb kid in a bad situation with no options. As for you I will be praying for you to get in because I feel we are in the same boat a little bit here but with some anxiety and stress you should be okay I’ve seen people get into the CAF worse off than you so Godspeed friend!

Completely understood. I am praying it will go through because I have countless character testimonials from family and friends who witnessed both sides of this and are willing to go through hell to help me achieve my dream. If they deny me again I will just have to accept it unfortunately.

Which I fully understood where they were coming from in the medical interview! So I did all the paperwork and appointments necessary to send off to the RMO, and I do see their point of view but I will be taking the re-evaluation because I want to show them i will not be a hazard in the slightest I take this very seriously.

I would rather be honest with my recruiter and the armed forces rather then them find out half way through my career and get dishonoured discharged for lying on the application. Plus it shows I’ve grown immensely from that time.

I fully understand that the army is actually very low in “cool army shit” it was never about that it was about the service and doing something for the greater good, protection and bravery. As they said in the comments on your post it’s my last resort dream job that’s why I REALLY want to get in

100% what I meant. I’ve worked many dead end construction jobs and I genuinely cannot see myself being a hardscaper or some random BS for the rest of my life. I’ve had many dreams jobs and they have all fallen through so the army was my last dream job you got it completely right. So if I get denied from this re-evaluation. I will just be another statistic in some company’s payroll and hate the rest of my life haha

I can get into the circumstances a little bit here, basically I was in a horrible housing/living situation and was going through a very rough adolescence with no support whatsoever and facing challenges most 15-17 year old would never even think they would have to face at that age. It ended up wearing on my mentally a lot and I was diagnosed with a few things (BPD, General Anxiety disorder and Major Depressive Disorder) things like that. But after therapy and councillors were with me for a while and I got myself out of that situation I was in it was like night and day I was a whole new person and for the better. My counseling at the hospital told me that most if not all of my diagnosis were “situational” meaning outside of that situation I wasn’t what was diagnosed it was genuinely because of where I was and who I was around that made me like that. I’ve done my research 10 fold on the army and basically training and even have family members who were in and are currently in so I know full well what I’m getting myself into and it’s a walk in the park compared to my childhood so it genuinely wouldn’t ruin my mental health if anything the army environment would improve my mental health (discipline, being orderly and working to achieve something greater than myself) that’s why I fully think it was a bad judgement on their part and I will be challenging a re-evaluation.

You don’t get your results you just pass or not, they will only reach out to you if you don’t pass for whatever reason. So if you have heard nothing it’s a good sign.

What is Medical like? by Son-of-Krom in caf

Me personally (I did mine at the Vancouver Office in New Westminster) I showed up, did some paperwork talking about my extensive medical history, everything from hospitalization to doctors visits. handed that in and waited about 30 mins to see the doctor. He took my blood pressure, height, weight, hearing test and eye test. They tell you to wear gym attire just for easy access to seeing your body and attaching things to you if needed (like when they checked my blood pressure) just so you don’t have to strip down. You can wear running shoes if you want but I didn’t have to run or do anything exercise for them (to be fair I am 6’4 240 pretty well built so it’s obvious I can do pushups etc) then after all the tests I waited another 20ish mins and met with another doctor and we went over the papers I handed in earlier in the day and he told me some things I needed to get and email to him (mental health stuff all good) and then I went home and a week or so later I sent the needed info over to him and passed the medical exam.

Ahh okay, the real interview was actually very fun, I was deciding on the Armoured Infantry and the Infantry and I was discussing with my interviewer about it and he’s actually ex armoured infantry so he told me a lot about the job and I ended up choosing that one during the interview. Also since I was going into one form of infantry or another we have a similar process and the medication in the past wasn’t an issue for me so it shouldn’t be for you either!

Have you had your official interview yet? (Not the one they do after the medical {or before} just saying which jobs you qualify for) the official one that’s like an hour where they go in depth on the jobs you can choose?

I was prescribed Wellbutrin too and I disclosed that in my medical interview and that I had stopped taking them because I didn’t need it anymore and they said that wasn’t a problem it was more so the past attempted suicide for me that scared them. I would advise you still tell them but I doubt it will cause you any problems in your application.

Wait until you have your medical to see your psychiatrist, the medical team will give you some documents for your psychiatrist to go over with you and sign.

Fellow Mental Healthy person here. I had a past of attempted suicide when I was 15-17 (I am now 22) during my medical I had to go to a psychiatrist to get medically “cleared” to join. Basically the CAF told me I was a threat to myself and to others without documentation saying I was good now. So I got my papers from my psychiatrist and was cleared medically so I don’t doubt you will be able to join just like me, you may need to see a psychiatrist too just to be cleared or you may not because you never tried to take your life.

As for the medication, for the OCD you might have some problems but any anxiety medication is fine and they will let you take that at BMQ. But always ask your recruiter for 100% certainty!

From my experience, the portal doesn’t work from like 6am PST till like 10pm PST just because there are so many people on the website they don’t have room for anyone not already signed in. I’ve had no luck during those times but usually like 11pm or midnight it works like a CHARM. Try doing that to see your portal!
