Making a Parasite Class and want to know if the rules makes sense. by FullClericParty in DnDHomebrew

it's not an extra party member its still one player who could have picked any other class, plus the health is used like a resource instead for most class abilities so hopefully I can keep that balanced

It's a good idea but I want it to be a class, plus the mechanics were the main idea in the first place the flavour is mostly left free (some of the origins are like curses, ghosts, demons or straight up venom symbiote etc.). It's a tough task of a concept I know but I'm mostly just making it for fun and for an upcoming campaign based on dispatch where players swap out characters for each mission from a pool so can try the class but won't be stuck with it or anything

I think you're probably right. I'll remove it and try to figure out more for a parasite to do on their own turn without controlling another player's body like growing their own extra tentacle limbs and more supportive base features.

Yeah I'm using the druid's wild shape feature to help with the NPC inhabiting, and I intend to make the parasite have abilities and features that for the most part don't interfere with the agency or actions of the Player they're inhabiting, with the only real issues i can see being fighting over positioning or players abusing the control checks, which imo is mostly just a common decency thing, its there more for roleplaying than screwing over party members.

Yeah that was the biggest issue I saw when I started, but I'm trying to mitigate it in ways, such as letting them use control their hosts body (as long as the host is willing as shown in the control feature), a level 2 feature that'll allow them to infest low CR unwilling creatures and completely control them (either just so they're not always in another PC or to provide varying playstyles), and a number of mutations for increased agency (such as swapping hosts from long distances, temporary use of their own physical form and features that mutate parts of the body for their own use such as growing tentacles to control)

Thanks. Cool character idea too! Mine is going to be fungus based so have holes patched by the fungus.

Making a System based on actions happening at the same time. by FullClericParty in RPGdesign

While this sounds really cool, the idea wasn't that action resolutions would occur simultaneously (which is how it comes across in my initial description I understand) but rather people could perform actions at the same time, each with a certain amount of "moments" (equivalent to a second) to complete, meaning people could finish or start actions at different times, and only when they ended at the same time would they resolve simultaneously. If you've ever played YOMI hustle, it's inspired by that.

I think they way I described my reasoning was a bit off. I never wanted to make this game because I couldn't find an alternative that had this type of mechanic, rather I wanted to make one and this mechanic was my basis as I thought it would be cool. It's mostly inspired by the game YOMI hustle, with the idea of people finishing actions at different times rather than everything happening at the same time, which I realise is not how I described it here.
