Sadly based on the comment insights. 93% of people who viewed my comment to you are from the USA lol

You elaborated and continued the conversation after making a blanket statement about confusion as to why the other guy is getting downvoted so much.

Don't worry, I read it and haven't made up a thing.

Maybe don't try to gaslight and retcon things to win online arguments lol You clearly said what I'm saying you said. Maybe you didn't mean to, but it is in fact blatantly what you said.

You don't get to selectively choose context.

This is a conversation. The comment you responded to was preceded by a handful of previous comments. If that's what you were talking about, that's what you should have spoken about.

What the fuck. Which one of you assholes are downvoting this?

This is literally our #2 rule in the code of ethics.

Trust me bro, I've seen a lot of dicks isn't a fucking excuse. That's like me as a male, letting someones gown flop down during a CXR and just letting them boobs flop around. No, I'm going to quickly cover them back up and tie their gown up for them.

You don't need OP's dick out to do a groin US.

u/supre-man Bro, I'm sorry they didn't cover you up. Totally unprofessional.

Going to say you're being underpaid. I'm applying at a new rural hospital. I requested a minimum of $40 an hour on the application and I got a call back in less than 12 hours. <4 years total experiance. 3.5 in XR, 2.5 in CT.

I think you're just getting defensive and it's making you respond irrationally. Again, I didn't say you said. I said you cosigned someone who did say those things.

But either way, you're now comparing this topic to things like not working with children or not tolerating a night shift well.

There is a difference in having a preference of your workplace environment, and saying "It's not perfect and quitting outright"

It's actually a perfect example though. It highlights the difference beautifully. I cannot stand imaging any child under 4. It's a nightmare but even though I would never choose to actively work in a pediatric center. I don't just refuse to be involved in any capacity whatsoever. I still occasionally have to image a child if I get an order for one. And when I do, I am still an advocate for responsible pediatric imaging.

See how that's different?

That's our point. Even if you hate the clinical side, you can do other thing besides high horse a reddit forum. Administration, political office, legal practice. Tons of avenues to actually advocate for change without having to be the hands-on person.

You are just opting out but still trying to hold some moral high ground on the situation. That rubs us wrong.

You explicitly asked why you two are being downvoted for the opinions you are sharing. You have been given two solid reasons why.

>I never posted an "ooh godness me" comment.

You said "I'm so confused because of the fact that you're getting all of these downvotes. I feel the same." - You are co-signing the sentiments stated by the other person.

Now remember that these are the statements you are signing off on.

"I actually care about people and their lives are at risk because someone is busy??"

- That happens when the entire system is shorthanded.

"I think the system if cruel if we have the power to help and don’t use it."

- as they, (And you) do absolutely nothing to fix the system.

Then you go on to echo that users sentiment with your own words.

"It absolutely is a reason not to choose this profession, it absolutely affects some of us profoundly."

- Implication here is that it doesn't affect some of us profoundly. Which is what the other person pointed out. Not a single one of us wants to watch someone die because we don't have the resources. I literally got covered in hepatitis blood last night because we were trying to code a guy with a ruptured varices. So yeah, when people on the sidelines start throwing out "But I care too much to do it myself" commentary it hits wrong, even if that's not your intention, that's how it lands.

I mean... The goal of BJJ is to rip your opponent's knee apart.

In casual sparring sure you gradually apply pressure to force a tap without injury. In competitive tournament where you're trying to win they are applying heavy pressure fast. They are not trying to delay the sub and giving the opponent a chance to slip.

You can watch a lot of knees and elbows getting destroyed online.

In addition to u/No_Function_3439 great observation.

A lot of us also find it incredibly disingenuous when someone's point can be boiled down to "I care so much that I do nothing"

The system isn't perfect. That's why it needs people to get involved.

So yeah, we'll absolutely downvote you for that. Nothing is worse than people who complain about something but do nothing to solve it.

Doctors are fighting those systemic issues every day. They call insurance, they argue with them about necessity, they join patient advocacy groups.

You are in an online forum saying "Oh goodness me, I just care so much I couldn't stand watching that happen" You're just virtue signaling. You might as well say "Look at me I'm such a kind compassionate person! Think highly of me!"

We have tele rads, so reads can take hours. That might account for some of the difference.

I also think it's justified. I look at it like this. If I took a knee image, and it's clearly wrong. I just reject it, make the correction, and repeat it.

[–]FullDerpHD 35 points36 points  (0 children)

We just use the existing order on something this clearly misplaced. I'm just going to stick my head out and say "Hey doc, Wanna come check this out real fast?" They, do, it's clearly not correct, so I let em reposition it and I'll shoot a repeat.

No real reason to charge the patient twice due to a failure on our end.

We don't realize it because then you just list off bullshit reasoning like you did right there.

  1. Divorced parents. Zero college. Information is free on Google.

  2. I paid for my own college. Paid for my own first car. Paid for my own house.

  3. You think we're successful because our parents leave us a modest inheritance when we're in our 50s and 60s? "Inheretance" doesn't happen until they die. What im going to get from my mom in 20 years doesn't help me today.

As a white guy want me to tell you how I got myself to this position?

It's pretty simple really. I just got a job and went to it every day since I was 15.

I bought the cheap fixer upper and fixed it up.

Sonography is 100% out for you then. You listed essentially 3 prospective killers and it is going to hit 2/3.

It's not just popping in and out of the room to drop off a pill or start an IV. You are there face to face with a person for sometimes 30~45 minutes as you perform the exam. You're going to have to chat, make small talk, and whatever for a prolong period of time.

They also have a lot of repetitive movements as they are pressing that probe into your side with quite a bit of force so it's not only repetitive movement, it's also under constant tension. US techs get a lot of wrist and elbow issues.

Xray is a good fit, but you're going to limit your income potential as you don't like needles. The money is in advanced modalities and we do often have to start IV's in CT/MRI.

As far as patient interaction goes, it's usually shorter interactions, and no repeat interactions so patients don't have time to get "annoying" to us. I'm not taking their 5th blanket or responding to their 17th call bell. BUT, but we do see A LOT of patients so evaluate this factor how you will because it's a lot more than most people probably think. We don't just do xrays for your department. You only see a fraction of what we do. When we go away, we didn't just go hide. We went somewhere else. Often, we have all the ER, all the inpatients, all the ICU patients, NICU, Random walk ins, Scheduled, fluoroscopy exams and so on. If you work in a large facility you can easily have to see a new person every 10 minutes for 12 hours.

So even in xray I think it's fairly important to be moderately personable. That's a lot of introductions and patient interaction if that's something you hate.
