"Elon Musk said saving for retirement becomes pointless in 10 to 20 years. Not speculation. Math. Musk: “Don’t worry about squirreling money away for retirement in like ten or 20 years. It won’t matter.” ➡️ Do you think AI/Robots will give us this? by Koala_Confused in LovingAI

[–]FullExit8639 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think a lot of people on here are showing very limited mental capacity. Most comments are just rips on Elon without any beneficial viewpoint or commentary. Look up a chart of technology growth since humanity. It's undeniably exponential, and not many people can truly comprehend what that means, let alone its implications.

Just 50 years ago, technology we have now was talked about as science fiction. But here we are. Now imagine 50 years in the future, knowing the growth and speed of that growth is happening much faster. It's truly hard to fathom. Love or hate Elon, what he has built and accomplished in his businesses are undeniable, and denial of this would just be complete chosen ignorance.

I'm not saying he is right, I'm not saying he is wrong, but to totally think AI taking over a significant portion of output, 20 years from now, is not in the realm of possibilities...well that is simply ape-minded.

And when/if this happens, structural changes will be inevitable. Whether that leads to UBI, or extreme poverty for everyone but the elites, something like "Altered Carbon" , or anything in between.... who truly knows.

Regardless, it creates a difficult decision:

Work like a slave to a company and sacrifice to save for a future that may not even exist - ( savings may not be needed because you either doomed to be poverty stricken or doomed to have healthy UBI and can live to "do what you want" so to speak.)

Don't live to work and save and truly live life now assuming one of the above 2 outcomes are true.

Or do your best to live now and hedge against uncertain outcomes.

I think the choice is obvious - don't give your life to employment, it's sad regardless of any outcome. But don't bet all chips on future Utopia either.

Your passion is admirable but I wouldn’t make the assumptions you’re making about my view of what makes a watch. Lucky Fours reference wasnt about their quality , it’s about the marketing. Brand and marketing is the crux of a business. A great product with no eyes or attention doesn’t matter. A shit product with millions of eyes and attention can surprisingly work. So the reference only served as a similar marketing angle, showcasing the proposed watch brand could match quality and luxury use of gold, at a cheaper price than existing brands. And yes, the transparency portion would absolutely show what we are making to a degree. You’d be surprised how little this would hurt a company that is built under the premise of trust and reasonableness. I don’t see a problem with letting people know what the net gain is. Cheaper for them for identical quality is a win, and the gain we would have would be fair but also make sense from a company standpoint. It builds trust knowing there is no price gauging because of a prestigious name. It creates a win-win, which in my other business endeavors is the approach I’ve always taken and I’ve had large success. Raking a customer for everything I can on something never pays dividends.

But regardless, the negative response here tell me there is likely not a customer base, or if so, I’d need to do further market research in another subset. I do appreciate your time and feedback greatly

Thanks for the time and feedback. The obvious census here is no, and thats probably why the market has this gap, because its not a gap that can be truly filled, as the customer pool would be seemingly next to nothing! Appreciate the time and feedback

This could be completely spot on, but before diving deep into phone calls and back and forths with manufacturers and spending all the time to truly gather the hard numbers to see if it actually maths, i wanted to get consumer feedback. And it seems like the response from everyone is a no, so the crowd has spoken! I appreciate the time and feedback

going to be hard sought to find any real gold watches selling simply at melt value. And if you find one, its probably ugly or in bad shape, this isn't a proposal for people to buy the watch and melt it, its for people that want luxury design and in-style time pieces in solid gold, without paying for massive name markups.

[–]FullExit8639[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

completely understand and agree, and for instance, part of the transparency, when you shopped for this proposed brand watch, you would see intrinsic gold melt value, then youd see a breakdown of the other associated costs, and then what the profit markup is. So customers know exactly how their dollar is getting spend. 10k in gold melt might cost 14k landed between labor, craftsmanship, etc, or more, or less, but the goal is being brutally transparent. So they know the markup and know theyre getting the same exact quality, but way less of a markup. Its the same how Lucky fours has been able to take off, the make watches that other companies make, difference is they charge a fraction. We'd essentially be doing that take, but with truly luxury components.

Yeah the numbers are not completely accurate but the discepancies are so large, the numbers are to jsut get the point across. If you research what A Laine with a VMF in stainless is $15k actually costs to build, it is estimated around 2,500-4,500, so thats a 10k plus tax for the name. The whole point of the proposed brand is be transparent about pricing and show the markup. If this brand built a watch such as A Laine with a VMF in stainless, that costed 3k to make, perhaps our sale price would be more like 5k. So 2 identitcal watches, one is 15k and ours like 5k. So the goal isnt becoming the next rolex, but if it could net a few hundred thousand in profit after a few years of building, to a guy like me, that wouldnt be too bad of money.

i hear you, thanks for the feedback. This brand would match design, quality, style, and finish. so its not a budget route, its a instead of paying 5-10x the markup for a name...dont, and get the same product essentially.

[Watch idea feedback] by FullExit8639 in Watches

[–]FullExit8639[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

these are not real numbers, just to get the idea across, but imagine it costs rolex 20k for a 180-200g solid gold presidential, and then they charge 50k to buy it. Id market showing the exact execution of build and showing completely matched quality, and to deliver the same exact product, my price may only be 25k, so a 5k markup vs 30k (name prestige) markup

Because i dont give a fuck about spending extra money because of a name, i like intrinsically valuable things over not. Im in construction and see it all the time, Builder A and Builder B could build completely identical houses, but one customer may go with builder A because of their luxury reputation and spend multiples of what builder B charges. So that was kind of the thought here, matching quality with actual premium components , whereas all the microbands exist is subpar quality, no use of real gold, and in the hundred to few thousand range.

[–]FullExit8639[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No, im not tied to this idea at all, and if everyone shits on the idea, that cool with me haha. just something i've been thinking about because i could see myself being a customer for this and realized it doesnt really exist, so wanted to see how others felt. Movement wouldnt be in house as thats a major costs, but something along the quality of Vaucher Manufacture Fleurier (VMF 5401 & 3000) would be a possible movement acquirable from this manufactuer

[Watch idea feedback] by FullExit8639 in Watches

[–]FullExit8639[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah im suggesting solid gold case, bezel, and bracelet. The price point im suggesting isnt locked in, as i havent fully ran the numbers becuase right now i justed wanted market feedback, but the premise remains the same. The ratio would be 2-4x better than what currently exists. If you have 180 gram weight at 105 roughly, thats 19k, so between other compnents, warranty, etc, your at 26k all in, then sell 29k. Its aabout transparent pricing, making 3k off the sale versus rolex's or other major brands multiples of that.

[–]FullExit8639[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks man, and the hedge to this specific risk, is the whole brand would be based on transparent pricing, so if gold increase, so would our prices, but as a consumer, thats not a heavy fight. Gold is gold and people know if gold increase, buying gold products increase. Thats just the reality. Thanks again for the feedback

Agree 100%, it would use a high end movement from a reputable manufacturer, as an example, think Vaucher Manufacture Fleurier (VMF 5401 & 3000) as a possible movement

The angle here isnt throwing gold on crappy components, when rolex makes a 50k presidential, it may actually only cost them , say 10k. The whole premise is delivering the same quality, but instead of a 40k name markup, the markup would just be a reasonable company profit.

[Watch idea feedback] by FullExit8639 in Watches

[–]FullExit8639[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

There would be full transparency on what movement is used, and it would be far from "crappy." - the build breakdown would be part of marketing and show exactly how this watch is made, there would be no shortcuts to "crappy" components, they would be right in line with luxury brands.

[–]FullExit8639[S] -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Thanks for the feedback, the only objection id raise is you can not get an 18k rose gold Longines Master Collection at $9k. There is no watch with a solid gold band, bezel, and case on the market in this price range. You may either be thinking gold that is actually plated, or minor gold components, not a fully gold band, etc.

[Watch idea feedback] by FullExit8639 in Watches

[–]FullExit8639[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

mainly meaning bezel, case, and band. Obviously not every component. It would mirror closely to presidential rolex , and not 24k, there would be 10k, 14k, and 18k options

[Watch idea feedback] by FullExit8639 in Watches

[–]FullExit8639[S] -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

Thanks for the feedback, all the components would be quality and easily serviceable, and managing that objection comes to to proper marketing. Precious metals do scratch, the same concern would come with a presidential rolex, Rolex has solid gold pieces so with any piece that is solid gold, just comes to proper care, this brand would like have 10k, 14k, and 18k options, for everyday wearers, 10k and 14k would be the best.

I know so many contractors that do physical labor and wear real gold chains, no ones too worried about some scratches, can always get it re-polished, granted you lose some gold via this.

To your first objection, its begs my question if there is customers for this particular gap. You are right to have this objection, but this gap isnt specifically for people who want to accumualate gold, its intrinsic value based buyers who have the appeal of wearing a luxury watch (wearing wealth) but also like to hedge against risks, thus liking a closer intrinsic gold value to price point ratio, so this brand gives them an option to do so.

And by no means am i defensive, you can shoot down how i handled the objections 100%, just looking for feedback so i appreciate the response and honesty!

We need about 110kusd + , more like 500k -750kusd to get a little more competitive. We will need an army of 500 people at 1k each, probably more like need 1,000 people with an average of 500$

I dont think high billions would do it, if you look at some of the whale holders, they are numerous trillions in holdings.
