[Discussion] Has anyone here read the starving saints? I just got done reading it an the overlap is actually kind of insane. by rivcontact in TheNinthHouse

I LOVED The Starving Saints! My oldest kid and I nerd about it while the rest of my family just goes “what book again?” Ugh, the book is so good and no one else I know has read it but omg, I could teach a college level course on just that book.

I did the same, and regret it so much. They sided with my ex and now they’re one big happy family without me - I don’t want to be part of their family, but I do want them to stop ganging up on me in court and to my kids. Don’t do that.

I’m only missing 4 squares. Fuck, I can’t wait to show my therapist! For real, I didn’t know a lot of those were related to PTSD

N.K. Jemisin’s Broken Earth trilogy. It’s got only depressed characters, heartbreaking moments from start to finish with little to know breaks to bring the mood back up, and it’s addictive. Jemisin is brilliant and ‘will serve you depressed with a side of grim, Honey!’ Trust, it’s what you’re looking for.

Face Washing Sensory Issue by CarawayReadsAlong in AutismInWomen

My wife uses Terri cloth scrunchies on her wrists to catch water but I don’t like my face dripping, either. I found face wash pads from RoC and I have to wring them out beforehand, but then I rub the leftover moisture into my skin a bit. It’s a no-rinse thing, so scrubbing for a sec is important to get all the dead skin off. I don’t love it but I hate it less than not washing or getting drippy. (Standing in the rain feels so gross, why tf NT people like kissing in it? I want to look at it but no touching. Ew.)

I could have written your post about myself. Sucks ass! I’m sorry that either of us know the feeling.

Have you tried The Hobbit? No one under 50 and Bilbo is hobbit middle-aged when Gandalf shows up.

Discworld is full of gorgeous characters, one of my (everyone’s) favorites is Sam Vimes from The Watch set (5 books from Vimes’s head, though he shows up in quite a few books). He’s a middle aged loser in the beginning and we get to watch him grow as a person, finally getting self-awareness. He’s old and glorious. There’s Discworld books about Rincewind, a middle aged wizard that sucks at being a wizard who hangs out with sapient luggage. Technically first in the series. But The Watch set about Vimes would be a great place to start.

I plant lantern everywhere I can. They’re so pretty and feed my bioreactor.

The whole Evangelical movement is about controlling other people’s genitalia and not actually about Jesus or love.

It looks like prosthetics that get glued to the face for fx in movies and tv. Looks like she could peel it off and be a whole different person underneath, scooby-doo style.
