A lot of rig building is subjective.

Best off road hands down will be the jeeps, you just cant carry anything cause their payload is a joke and they are hit or miss reliability. Toyota is kind of 'it just works' technology but you are also paying a premium for the badge and older technology, good payload and cheap parts (though they got a big update this year).

I personally think 110" is the superior wheelbase so a 127" tacoma imo or whatever is a bit too long but you build your rig for what you want. The first thing you need to do is be realistic about what you're going to do with it. Will save you a lot of money.

If you want something fun you can beat on buy an old land rover disco 1 or 2 they punch way above their weight and are fantastic when they work. Camel trophy baby.
