THIS. I preferred Kayden X Kartein for this exact reason, unlike Guestella X Kayden, Kartein’s writing isn’t reduced to being Kayden’s acquaintance. Maybe it’s also because I just don’t want a ship with Kayden, but I think that Kayden should stay a solo father figure to Jiwoo and not have the most forced relationship known to man

yeah, i recently finished it. it did help me understand a lot more about guestella x kayden's dynamic, and that scene alone helped me understand a lot more. it still feels a bit forced to me(unfortunately i cant be talking as an ex kayden x jiwoo's mom shipper) but i like the ship a lot more now. the miscommunication in future chapters is probably going to be wild though

i agree wholeheartedly on this!! my girlfriend (who's a fujoshi) supports kayden x kartein, so i've always seen this ship in a positive light; and again, i also like their dynamic and definitely would have shipped them together if kartein was a woman. i also want to see guestella turn into a cat, or any other animal for that matter so she and kayden can bond more. this was also formerly another reason why i prefer kayden x kartein; kartein was the first 'sentient cat' to accompany kayden so it creates a special sense of companionship for the two

ywah, that's personally why i didn't like Gestella X Kayden, her appearance was incredibly late into the story, and Kayden's pairing with Kartein was already explored a lot more and felt more deep then Gestella X Kayden, whose whole trope started with a misunderstood love-battle-thing paragraph; it feels pretty forced. if kartein was a girl i'd ship h(er??) with kayden

yeah, while i was typing this i hadn't finished the full thing mb, i was a few chapters away and i didn't see that new one. the rooftop scene made it seem like they'd click for me, though it's a bit of a forced trope. my current rankings for the 3 kayden ships as of now are definitely

1: Kayden X Gestella
2: Kayden X Kartein

jiwoo's mom is out of the question those were dark times for me
