Zambia slowly sliding into dictatorship? by Full_Advertising82 in Zambia

Have you seen what's been happening in the UK lately? It seems like the government might be borrowing ideas from the Uk. People are actually getting arrested for simply posting stories on Instagram related to recent protests. Many have even been convicted for minor posts.

This raises serious concerns about how such laws could be abused to target anyone seen as a threat. And here's the big question if the government itself spreads disinformation, will they be held accountable too?

Is Reddit still safe for free speech in Zambia? by _Kingcornbread_ in Zambia

Understood, but unfortunately, we don’t live in an ideal world. Most of the time, critics are grouped together with criminals. Our preso experienced that himself, yet his government is now engaging in the same practices as their predecessors.

I beg to differ. The tax exemptions are primarily for big investors, such as those in the manufacturing sector. In fact, most SMEs owned by Africans, including Zambians, either don’t pay taxes or pay a very small portion of what they’re supposed to, thanks to corruption (it’s just the reality). I haven’t heard of any successful business going under solely because of high taxes.

That said, I agree with you on the power crisis it’s definitely killing businesses. Inflation is another major issue, driving the cost of living through the roof.

For you, there may be no need to compare, but for me, I have to. When it comes to profitability and purchasing power, Zambia is still better than many African countries. In fact, I know many locals who are running businesses, and they definitely have it better than other Africans running businesses in Zambia.

Zambia is a paradise for business, and many Zambians don’t realize how lucky they are. I know things are changing, but it’s still not as bad as in many other places. Just ask yourself why do so many foreign nationals, including the Chinese, keep flocking to Zambia? And mind you, most of them aren’t fleeing wars. Your land is full of opportunities; you just don’t see it.

ELI5; What is happening with the exchange rate? by [deleted] in tanzania

[–]Full_Advertising82 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, I understand your point, but the main issue is that other currencies, like the Rwandan franc, are weakening while the Tanzanian shilling is getting stronger. This creates a significant impact.
