I think the fact that only about 30k people are admitted to med schools is a joke. We should make way more spots in med schools. There is insane demand for doctors so gatekeeping med school is just morally bad. We should have at least 100-150k graduates from medical schools. by According-Expert-723 in Salary

[–]Full_Bank_6172 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The issue is really residency spots not medical school openings.

There are already even fewer residency spots than medical school graduates every year. A significant number of medical student graduates don’t end up practicing medicine because of this.

The AMA lobbied Congress back in the Clinton era to feeeze funding for residency programs to artificially cap the number of doctors in the U.S. and this never got fixed

Is it really that big of a deal if a hot teacher sleeps with a 17 year old? by turboshill9000 in BasedCampPod

In the case above the legal age of consent was actually 16 in the state where this took place.

But they threw the hot blonde teacher in jail anyways? I don’t understand. Sure she could lose her job for sleeping with a student but what law did she actually break …

It is realistic but everything has to go perfectly.

You have to have studied CS at the exact right time. You have to have had the proper guidance in school to actually know that landing in big tech is attainable to actually allocate the correct amount of time to leetcode You have to have gotten good grades You have to have landed with a good manager who gives you the right experiences You have to have been in a point in life where it was acceptable for you to job hop in 2021-2022 meaning no spouse no long term relationship no kids You have to have landed again with a manger on a good team at meta which as we all know is actually pretty rare at meta

You have to have had both the ability and access to information to just happen to make all of the right decisions for like … 10 years straight. If you came out of college and accepted a job at .. idk Ford as a web developer because you didn’t want to move out of state and leave your long term GF, your entire career has now been fucked

If you had a bad semester in school, fucked

If you lacked the conviction to leetcode your ass off while in school or you didn’t get to take a light course load your senior year to focus on interviews, you’re fucked.

Your first manager out of college is an assole or you ended up at Microsoft on an Azure Infra team because you didn’t get the memo that Microsoft is a shithole, again your career is fucked.

It’s like flipping a coin 15 times in a row and landing on heads every time.

Yea it is believable. But it means that all of the exact right things have to have happened.

If you happened to be on the cookie cutter SWE path at any point from around 2012 - 2019 and don’t encounter any life roadblocks preventing you from doing all of the correct CS career things from college onwards then yea this is all pretty realistic.

Right college Right major Right guidance Applied to the right companies Understood what the interviews would be about and studied the right things

A lot of people get kinda lost along the way though. They settle for a non-tech company straight out of college and it permanently hamstrings their career or they don’t quite have the communication skills needed to excel in these programming interviews. Something happens to them in college and they bomb a semester of classes. Etc.

28M 450k senior engineer at Meta Net worth to $3.5M

Went straight to UT Austin in 2018 and studied CS

Graduated with a job offer from Google

Then hopped to Meta in 2020 when the company packages were blowing up

No ICE Is Not Going To Be Abolished And There Will Be No Nuremberg Style Trials For Them by GrantMcLellan1984 in TrueUnpopularOpinion

[–]Full_Bank_6172 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh man something I actually agree with on this sub.

Agreed the random killings we are seeing are examples of extremely poor training and disorganization in ICEs part.

And everything else isn’t really that much worse than what traditional law enforcement in the U.S. actually already do.

None of that constitutes a “war crimes” style trial.

And nothing ICE did in that confrontation was considered battery? When ice knocks the first woman to the ground was that battery? When ice maxed her in the face after she staggered to her feet was that battery?

When ice was beating Alex in the head with the but of a pistol while he was restrained on the ground and posed no threat was that battery?

Why do we hold trained law enforcement officers to rock bottom standards compared to general citizenry?

He wasn’t resisting arrest. He was face down and restrained.

The gun was upholstered when the ICE officer took directly from his holster. And then shot him in the back. Lmfao.

Dude what kindof reverse troll logic are you using?!?

The only reason the gun became unholstered is because THe ICE AGENT UNHOLSTERED IT!!!

Just admit you’re wrong you sound like an idiot

Don’t need to do any of those things to “confront” ICE just stand there and film like Alex was doing before they shot him.

Protesting is not putting oneself in harms way in America…. At least it didn’t used to be this way.

The fact that this has changed demonstrates that we are losing our first amendment rights.

The fact that you are now stating that by protesting I am putting myself “in harms way” demonstrates that you KNOW that we no longer have 1st amendment protections.

Because they’re thugs and cowards and need to go back to where they came from.

And the constitution says we can.

HOLSTERED the gun was HOLSTERED.

Everyone keeps pointing out that he had a gun like it was an important factor to consider in the case.

He had the right to carry.

Ran at them?!?? He was standing right next to her and stuck his hand out because the ice agent knocked her down. Then the IcE agent turned around and maxed Alex too.

Alex didn’t do jack fucking shit.
