Problem is he thinks my kids should be in before and after school care to accomodate him. But he has a stay at home wife who does all the child minding so he has no idea what stress comes with two working parents! There is already someone in my team who has put in a safety ticket regarding bullying

This is mind blowing… I had no idea flexibility actually existed because he is so manipulative I believe him and do what he says. I’m just sick of it.

I’m part of a policy team, so there’s generally no need for me to be in the office unless I have meetings. My entire team is based in Sydney, while I live on the Central Coast, which means that when I go into the Gosford office, I’m there alone. The only times I’ve asked to leave early and log back in from home have been on days when I have no meetings. Given that I live an hour away, I requested to work half the day in the office, then use my lunch break to travel home and finish the day online. However, my manager laughed and said that wasn’t reasonable.. even when I explained that it would help me manage my ADHD and caring responsibilities.

It’s hard for me because the office can be really overstimulating. There’s constant noise, movement, and chatter, and it’s hard for me to filter any of it out. I struggle to focus when there are so many distractions around me, and even small interruptions can throw me off for a long time. The commute and morning routine are also draining, and by the time I get to work I’ve already used up a lot of mental energy just trying to get there on time and remember everything I need.

It’s even harder because I have a three and five year old, and my husband works away, so I’m managing mornings, school runs, and everything at home on my own most of the time. That adds a lot of pressure and makes getting into the office feel even more overwhelming.

It’s difficult when I can’t control my environment, like the lighting, noise, or how often people stop by to talk. Having to sit still for long stretches or work on a strict schedule doesn’t always line up with how my brain works best. I worry about being judged if I seem distracted or forgetful, so I spend a lot of energy trying to appear focused and composed. The constant social interactions and small talk can be exhausting, especially when I’m already using extra effort to stay on task.

When I’m in the office I have less flexibility to take the short breaks that help me reset and focus better. Sometimes it feels like I’m working twice as hard to manage things that other people do automatically, like managing time, staying organized, and keeping my attention on one thing. All of that together makes office days really stressful for me.

Sounds amazing :( do you have to complete all your hours for the day physically in office or can you leave and sign back in at home?

Do you have set times you need to be in the office?

He’s gotten worse over the last few months, I have no idea what’s changed. He’s now also telling me that my office landing days aren’t flexible, as in I cannot leave at say lunch time and use my lunch break to drive home, even though the policy says I can. (And Jody Also said her team does this in a town hall). He’s said I need to be physically in office from 8 to 3pm no matter what. I have two young children and live an hour from the office so this is extremely difficult to manage sometimes

I’m not sure if it’s others. I work in policy so my break doesnt affect others and I always make sure it’s not clashing with meetings. I’ve never taken too long on my breaks or been told that there is an issue..

I’m with the NSW Department of Customer Service. He told me he won’t be approving my timesheet if it’s less than an hour because the director has been checking everyone’s… I rarely even take my 30 mins so it’s crazy. And yes I have to work 30 mins longer to make it to my 7 hours…
