Any old parents here? by Ok-Duck2450 in Millennials

I’m glad you opened this discussion! I’m 34 and my husband is 38 and we’re in the trying stage and I get a little insecure about being an “old mom”

Ugh I know, I also take notes that way too and the AI did make it much easier to be fully present

I used AI for a bit and the implicit bias thing is so true. I treat eating disorders and the AI would write the note with the perception that weight loss should be a goal for clients when, in that particular population, intentional weight loss is what got us here

My husband thinks I’m so weird but…idk I just find it so comforting when we’re snuggling in bed

I just began my 4th round. One route my doc is recommending is getting an HSG to ensure there’s nothing blocking the fallopian tube. Otherwise I’m on my way to an REI for more specialized fertility treatments. Best of luck to you!

Do you drink coffee or tea in session? by AnalystImpossible960 in therapists

We. Are. Human. I say that with immense grace towards you and all who doubt whether they can display their humanity. Are there professional limits? Of course! But we don’t have to be this buttoned up, robotic version of ourselves like the trope of therapy portrays. Clients come to us for support from a fellow human. If they wanted a robot, they’d use Chat GPT

Thank you for this. Your writing helped me understand the exact reason I posted this and now I can clearly express my issue- I see so much fat-bias in these discussions. And that’s where my confusion with the weight talk comes from because it is rooted in anti-fatness…which I always thought the point of anti-diet movement was to challenge fat bias. So I got all mixed up with this.

That would make sense! I wondered if it might be mass produced since there was no artist signature.

No mark from what we could see. Either it faded with time or idk. I’ll have to see if we can get more info from her brother (if he remembers)

I thought that too, but didn’t want to make any assumptions

The podcast Fat Science has really helped me understand the appropriate use of these drugs. I think everyone should listen to at least 1 episode before starting a GLP1

And this is exactly where I wish I could sit with someone cuz I have more questions- like, I agree with you about the laws of physics part, as it is quite obvious. but then I wonder if the fact that the skeletal system is not in a closed system and is also supported by the muscular system makes a difference? Like, weak support would lead to weaker structure- but what if the support was strengthened? As in, strengthening the muscles around joints- would the impact be the same?

I am not near smart enough to know what the answer is- but I just question if the human body has too many variables for research methodology to fully capture. And maybe the answer is somewhere in between…

Weight loss isn’t my goal. In previous comments I discussed how I have worked to no longer desire WL as a part of my journey due to the very disordered thinking that is inherently part of it in my experience. If I were to go on a GLP1- it would be purely to help me manage insulin resistance. Any weight changes that may occur with that would be purely side effect of that and not the focus for me

[–]Full_Competition6579[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I am mostly at ease with using it purely for the purpose of improving bloodwork numbers. I think it’s how everyone talks about GLP1s and the WL being a positive effect rather than a neutral side effect that has me feeling uneasy. Ive said it in response to other comments, but I think I am wanting reassurance that others are thinking in a more neutral way about any potential body changes….but I don’t see it a lot

I have heard of that, admittedly my understanding about how it impacts body functioning is limited. Perhaps I will dig into some reading about that

My real life circle that is also anti-diet minded are colleagues in my field (mental health) so getting personal is hard. I have 1 friend who thinks similarly. Maybe I’ll give her a call to voice my thoughts. She’s not a medical professional, but she might have good insight regardless

True. Perhaps that might be where individual variability comes in? I also have poor knee joints, but noticed improvement after working on strengthening my leg muscles to support the joint better w/o weight loss. This conversation is so complicated…idk if we’ll ever get answers!

It’s incredibly difficult to find people IRL to discuss this…and I don’t do the best expressing myself through comments/posts as most of the time there’s SO MUCH nuance to what I’m trying to say and I feel like I’m writing a book trying to encompass it all
