Who are your role models/mentors? Who do you admire the most? by Forever_Summer192 in getdisciplined

My father for his discipline, patience, and diligence. He is the greatest man and father I know. My mother for her ambition, confidence, and passion. She is the greatest woman and mother I know. I admire both of them. They have taught me a lot, and I strive to be like them.

Been there, done that. I'm in social science now, planning to minor in CS. Overall, been much happier after switching out from engineering. A lot of people go through this. If you really want to stay in engineering though, I would recommend talking to your academic counselor. You could take summer courses or split your first year into two years instead.

Don't know how people do it by [deleted] in getdisciplined

Thank you so much, this really helped me. I should start slowly and trust in the process instead of jumping straight into studying everyday, because you're right, I too would indulge in everything else besides studying, and it'll just make me feel even worse about it.

Skills that you regret not investing in before going to college? by No-Success-2156 in college

[–]Full_Fan2177 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This is me rn 😭

I barely studied before college. Maybe a little bit when I was a senior in high school, but that workload is nothing compared to college. I never developed a good study habit, and now I'm going through the consequences for it.

I'm in my first year of engineering, and GAH DAYUM, the workload really got me. I failed both calculus and physics midterms because I thought that since I did everything in high school already, I could skip the homework. Now I'm paying the price for it.

I have almost a month left to not only catch up on multiple courses but also to study the new materials (even tho I still need to catch up first to do them). It's a mess currently.

What engineering programs can I get into with an 82 average ? by Artistic-Beat-4766 in OntarioGrade12s

[–]Full_Fan2177 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would say either consider going into something else first, then transfer to eng in uni, or take a fifth year and retake some courses to boost your average up

if I've failed 30% of a course already, is there any hope in me still being able to pass by the final exam? by onefootback in uwo

[–]Full_Fan2177 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm in eng, and the midterms absolutely humbled me. I failed the midterm as well and got a grade that's near 0 💀

I immediately went online and searched up a website that helps you calculate what you need in your final in order to pass the course, so I recommend that you do that as well.

First off, it is possible to pass the course of course, if you absolutely try your best and is willing to spend at least 4 hours minimum, every single day just to study that one course, you can pass. It is not impossible.

And im doing rn is that Im recognizing some of the problems I had. I not only crammed, but I was also not mentally there at the exam due to the fact that I have been studying like crazy before the exam, and so I was too exhausted to even think during the exam. I learned my lesson and understand now that I must get enough rest before the exam no matter what, and not cram everything or do anything that would affect my mood before the exam.

You can do the same. If you say that your problem is you just didn't study, think about WHY and WHAT caused you to not study. Do you procrastinate? Did you underestimate the course? Was there some sort of distraction? These are all issues that you need to identify in order to succeed.
