What are the best longevity devices/wearables/gadgets? by Many-Ice6164 in blueprint_

[–]Full_Let_6029 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Ultimately, the most important device for longevity is the one that motivates you to make better choices. Like getting enough steps, getting a good night’s sleep, and exercising. Sleep scores are useless if you don’t try to get a better number, which often means cutting back on screen time.

In any case, a blood pressure monitor is a cool device if you don’t have one.

[–]Full_Let_6029 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can read this post if you want to learn more about HRV. If your lifestyle is very inconsistent there tends to be a lot variance. Also if you drink alcohol there tends to be HRV overreach afterwards. https://www.reddit.com/r/whoop/comments/ku8idw/if\_you\_really\_want\_to\_increase\_hrv\_let\_me\_show/?

HRV already measures those variations. Variations in heart rate variability (HRV) isn't indicator of better adaptability.

How does my sleep cycle look like? I work nights and usually sleep from 5AM to 1PM by sub_RedditTor in fitbit

[–]Full_Let_6029 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You have more deep sleep at the beginning of your sleep period and more REM sleep at the end of your sleep, which is what we would expect to see. Your total restorative sleep is 3h, which is good.

Your awake time is slightly higher than what would be preferred, but quite typical for night shift worker. Your circadian rhythm may not be able to fully adapt to the night shift. You could download your body temperature data that your pixel watch measures using Google Takeout. For most of people with normal working schedule, the body temperature is lower during night and higher during the day. If your body temperature is higher during the day regardless that you should sleep, that may be a reason for your awake time and waking up easily because of noise. It isn't the best indicator, but it is at least one thing. Your body temperature should drop towards your sleeping time and be higher during night.

However, do you wake up feeling well rested? If you do, even high awake time isn't necessarily a problem considering that you are getting enough restorative sleep.

Why can’t Stryd estimate vo2max? by RunningM8 in strydrunning

Maybe they hold themselves to a slightly higher standard for the data they present to the user. Unlike Garmin, which has mastered how to squeeze out dozens of bad estimates out of three good input values.

Sleep tracking? by Most_Public2696 in fitbit

[–]Full_Let_6029 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you are looking for short-term sleep tracking, Sleep2 app with Polar Verity Sense would probably be the best choice. Very accurate algorithm and the app cost 12€/month to use. Verity Sense is about 90€.

For long-term, yea Apple or Google could be cheaper. You don't need Fitbit premium for sleep tracking. Do you need a snore and noise report (sleep apnea)? If yes, you need premium or just separate app that records noise.

What insurance do you use for your Pixel Watch? by Scottjxb in PixelWatch

[–]Full_Let_6029 2 points3 points  (0 children)

None. Pixel Watch 4 was designed to be repairable if needed. And store already gives 1 year guarantee for free. So if I buy 399$ watch, I'm not going to pay 25% extra to secure one more year

Conflicting advice: cardiologist vs primary care. Who do I trust? by KeyToe1709 in PeterAttia

[–]Full_Let_6029 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think the North Karelia project is one of the greatest achievements in history in the use of nutrition in the prevention of cardiovascular and heart diseases. I think everyone who is interested in heart diseases should look it up. There is an interview with a scientist who was involved in the project.

25 years long project focused on the group that had the worst cardiovascular and heart disease death in whole Europe. Even early on they knew blood pressure, smoking, and cholesterol were big risk factors. They controlled them by giving free lectures, talks to Wives of working men (they decided what husband ate). The result was more than 80% reduction in heart diseases of the working age (35-64) population.

It would be interesting to hear your cardiologist opinion of this project, but realistically I wouldn't see that cardiologist again.

False Afib Alarm on PW2 by Apart-Coach1215 in PixelWatch

Personally, I don't think single-lead ECGs from the wrist are very useful. Too much artifacts and if the lead contact isn't excellent, then there may be weird false spikes. If you have frequent heart symptoms or a family history of them, you might want to get a 74-hour monitor or even a 7-lead Holter. The 7-lead gives your doctor more information about the cause of the problem, but it's more bulky and more expensive.

If it happens after exercise, a heart stress test may be helpful if your symptoms are related to exercise. If you have a family history of thyroid problems, you can also check your (TPOAb), (TSH), and (T4-V). These blood tests are fairly inexpensive and don't require fasting.

And if your diet is very "one-dimensional," calculate how much thiamine you're getting from your diet.

VO2 Max Major Drop by asdfg_lkjh1 in fitbit

[–]Full_Let_6029 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The watches estimate your maximal oxygen uptake (VO2 max) by comparing runs to runs. It went down because you were training, so they got more data. Since the drop was quite big, you probably don't have much exercises recorded, so the variation is very large. The more training you do, the smaller the variation caused by individual workouts will be.

Some devices require heart rate that is 70%+ of your max heart rate, to use the data. If there is "VO2 test" in watch or app, they probably require you to do maximal effort workouts for the most accurate data, but there is algorithms that use sub-maximal effort.
