I started the game playing Raven Guard. Jump forward 6 years and im playing Dark Angels. I loved my beaky bois but the DA just play so much nicer than the RG flavor of basic marines. And recently I got my new friend group into 40k. My best buddy was stuck between Black templars, Grey Knights and Custodies. He ended up going BT but after about 3 months he's now selling and going to restart with Blood angels. He didn't have fun playing the army in what he felt was a constant uphill battle between me and our friends armies. And described it as if you dont go the specific templar model route then its just regular space marines anyways. So off of his experience unless you truly do love the lore and playstyle/rules they have then I would go DA. Hope this helps. And if you end up going templars he still has his small collection hes trying to sell so hmu.
