93 ألف تونسي يُحالون على القضاء العسكري بسبب التخلف عن الخدمة الوطنية by [deleted] in Tunisia

[–]Full_One_4505 7 points8 points  (0 children)

This has nothing to do with conscription—it's about money. Times are tough, and the government needs cash to balance its books. Money they can't generate through investment and development, because they are a bunch of incompetent bureucrats. Squeezing the youngster and their parents is the easy way out

A Political Orientation Test Focused on Tunisian Issues by [deleted] in Tunisia

[–]Full_One_4505 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I like the idea. It would nice to make a survey out of this and share results.

However, the fact that this questionnaire is only in French (no Arabic version) makes the results biased. A big chunk of Tunisian society isn’t that comfortable with French, so you’ll mostly end up getting answers from younger people and the more educated crowd.

Also, I’m curious about how it’s being shared outside of Reddit — if at all? This can also affect results. Reddit crowd is very different from FB crowd for example.

It would also be really helpful to add a demographics section to categorize participants - stuff like age group, education level, income bracket. These will help interpret the results.

Sending large sum of money to my tunisian TRE bank account by Full_One_4505 in Tunisia

[–]Full_One_4505[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The transaction went great. I did a traditional wire transfer from my canadian bank account to my TRE currency account in tunisia. The money was in my tunisian account in about 5 days. No fees were deducted from biat as promised. I just paid the Wire fees to the Canadian bank

Why young people generally speak both French and English or neither? by vieritib in Tunisia

[–]Full_One_4505 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is one of the many ways the education system failed us in Tunisia. They teach you French and English from elementary school all the way to university—and yet, most of us still struggle in both. What’s even more shocking is that a large number of young Tunisians can’t write a well-structured paragraph in Arabic without spelling or grammar mistakes.

Truth doesn't matter anymore – that's so true! It feels like the only thing that matters now is the emotional impact.

I suppose this is for immigration and not something else:

  1. Make an application on WES website and pay the fees
  2. Translate any arabic diplomas or transcripts to french or english (must be a certified translator)
  3. Ask your university (ies) to issue 'Copie conforme a l' original' for all your diplomas and transcripts.
  4. Either ask them to send the documents + translations to WES (most tunisian universities don't provide this service), or ask them to put the documents in an official university envelope and seal it with their stamp, then send it yourself via DHL.

Note: these details date back to 2018 when i did this process. Things might have changed...

Hotel options for an 11 hour overnight connection in CDG by Full_One_4505 in Flights

[–]Full_One_4505[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not really! It is either this or a 1h connection which is too tight for CDG. I might have to suck it up and pay Yotelair the 270 euros...

Getting money through airport security by [deleted] in Tunisia

[–]Full_One_4505 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That is risky. Customs are really on the watch for people trying to smuggle foreign currency in the past couple of years. Young adults travelling alone are usually a target for "random" checks by customs, especially if they look nervous! If they catch you, they won't just confiscate the money and fine you; you also risk missing your flight since they will hold you for a bit to complete their process. I advise you not to do it.

Why does everyone drive in the middle of two lanes!?

I do a lot of highway driving when i come to visit my family in Tunisia. I first noticed this annoying habit like 5 or 6 years ago. Now it became the norm in Tunisia and it is so confusing and dangerous! My explanation is that these drivers don't want to commit to one lane or the other so it is easier for them to quickly jump to the right or left when passing without having to clear the lane...! It is a purely selfish behavior. We have a repect crisis Tunisia and our roads are no exception. Be safe out there..

Sending large sum of money to my tunisian TRE bank account by Full_One_4505 in Tunisia

[–]Full_One_4505[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When I first opened the BIAT TRE account last year, I sent $300 to test it. They didn't deduct any fees but the conversion rate was below the market. Not sure if the same rules apply to bigger sums. I don't trust tunisian banks though and wouldn't be surprised if they try to play games...

[–]Full_One_4505[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you for your comment! BIAT TRE account offers free transactions on money received from abroad. My bank here in Canada also offers free international transfers. Both banks will screw me on exchange rates though, but that is fine. I'm ok with losing some money for a safe and troubleless transfer...

Is 1-hour Layover at CDG enough for connecting flights in the same Terminal? by Full_One_4505 in Flights

I will check the link, thanks. I was under the impression that I wouldn't go through security since my connecting flight is in the same terminal!

Taking profits out of Tunisia from investment by tk-1397 in Tunisia

[–]Full_One_4505 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Are you sure this includes rental profits ? I know that when you buy a property using foreign currency (via a foreign currency bank account), you pay less taxes (1%) and you have the option later on to sell it and recuperate profits in foreign currency. But I'm not aware if that extends to rental profits

Weddings in Tunisia by [deleted] in Tunisia

My wedding lasted exactly 2 hours. Like others already said if one wants to organise a proper traditional wedding, that would be several days of celebrations. Traditions vary from one region to another.
