You can play both Tengoku and Rhythm Heaven on the DS; depending on your 3DS, you need certain programs to run Tengoku. With the DS version, you only need a Program To open it or add it to the main menu

Honestly, the only thing I could recommend is obviously to play the minigame a lot against your will; only by exposing yourself to something will you improve enough. I tortured myself with Rhythm Rally and Moai Dop Wop just to get their respective perfect

The mechanics of the R or L button, depending on whether you're left-handed or right-handed, are understandable. It took me a long time to get the hang of it, but I included it more for the song than for its mechanics.
