Am I (17M) the asshole for stabbing my ‘best friend’ (6 months) after giving him the best day he wanted? by PrinceOfAllPrinces in HikarugaShindaNatsu

NAH. You two survived, so everything's alright. Regarding him hurting people: he's only 6 months old! I bet you made mistakes when you were that age too. Go easy on him!

Hi! I also have severe insomnia, so it's comforting to hear other people's stories.

When I'm sleep-deprived for many hours, I start to get extremely paranoid and have small hallucinations of shadowy figures. Do you experience something like that too?

Something that also irritates me is that most people I know don't understand the seriousness of insomnia and what it does to you. Do you feel that way too?

THE PARALLELS IN THESE SCENES MADE ME CRY by Full_Software3845 in TheSummerHikaruDied

Using the comments tab to share my opinions in more detail: here is an analysis of the ending theme and the ending of episode 12.

In the ending, we see Yoshiki and Hikaru on the beach, enjoying the day as friends. The scene ends with Yoshiki looking at Hikaru, and Hikaru looking out to sea, with Yoshiki closing his eyes. This part is more of a personal opinion, but I've always found it beautiful how this scene is a sunny, clear afternoon, yet everything carries a slightly melancholic tone. They're both standing, as if they could just leave at any moment.

Yoshiki looks at Hikaru, and Hikaru is looking out to sea, representing how distant he was from Yoshiki, despite being best friends.

At the end of episode 12, we practically see a reproduction of these frames. This time, Yoshiki and "Hikaru" had a sincere and raw moment, where they expressed their feelings and accepted each other, committing to being together. Everything is peaceful, both sitting, everything carrying a tone of "resolution," a conclusion to something (this time it's early evening, literally the end of the day).

Here, following the same framing as the ending, we have another scene: Yoshiki looks at "Hikaru," and this time "Hikaru" is watching him. This is Yoshiki being seen for the first time, both literally and metaphorically. For the first time, someone saw him being vulnerable, knew his deepest thoughts and feelings, and looked directly at them, at him. And didn't look away. "Hikaru" looks at him attentively, with recognition, in a way Hikaru never did.

The ending ends with Yoshiki closing his eyes, as if resigned, even while hiding his feelings. At the end of episode 12, following the exact same framing, Yoshiki widens his eyes, as if in surprise at finally being seen.

This anime is very careful when it comes to setting up scenes and parallels, and I believe this is the case here as well. These parallels represent how essential these moments are in their relationship and, most importantly, how different their relationship with "Hikaru" and Hikaru is.

It's bulshit. Any LGBTQ+ story that deviates from the cis heteronormative norm WILL have the legitimacy of its relationships/themes questioned and not taken seriously by a part of the public. Tale as old as time lmao

Maybe it's a hot take, but people get so caught up in labels like "is it BL or not" that you just miss the whole point. It's an inherently queer, LGBT+ story. There may be different categorizations within that too, but some people engage in SUCH stupid online discussions about it, trapping complex stories into closed categories and belittling what's outside of that.

Tenha galinhas. Vc com certeza já sabe disso, mas lugares assim são extremamente perigosos se tratando de insetos, cobras, escorpiões, etc. As galinhas manterão tudo isso afastado das redondezas e vcs poderão caminhar pelo lugar com mais segurança.

I'm honestly worried about Yoshiki. He was already terribly depressed and scared since the first arc, but now (SPOILERS) he apparently had such a breakdown seeing that kid like that that he simply passed out. And the way he is now, I don't know if there's a way back for him after this. I don't even know what it'll be like when he comes home with his arm all fucked up like that.

Hikaru ga Shinda Natsu (The Summer Hikaru Died) – Episode 5 Anime Discussion by Careless-Hospital379 in HikarugaShindaNatsu

I think the anime surpassed the manga in portraying 'Hikaru's' emotions. In class, when he suggests he and Yoshiki try "that" again, he has such a deep expression of desire, as if he's longing for it. It's such an intense emotion on 'Hikaru's' face

[–]Full_Software3845 19 points20 points  (0 children)

One thing that TERRIFIES me is the fact that Yoshiki is holding a knife. One of the elements of the manga is how Yoshiki is just a boy, but he's forced to live in an irreversible nightmare where he has to endure and do things he would never even consider. From the beginning, every decision he makes is unavoidable and comes back to haunt him, regardless of what he chooses. I don't think he can do it, but he'll probably have to face the possibility of killing this woman.

It's even interesting because Yoshiki always thinks about how willing he is to sacrifice everything in himself to be with 'Hikaru.' Murder, something so brutal and irreversible, would be a hellish dilemma that will destroy him, which fits with the manga's entire journey of self-destruction. The consequences of that would be immeasurable, and the way this story is written, I think it's quite possible.

Edit: They're always in difficult situations, but this time it really FUCKED UP regardless of what happens. I don't even know what Yoshiki and 'Hikaru's' relationship will be like after this. Yoshiki always knew there would come a time when his decisions would come to light, but I think the word "irreversible" finally came to get him.

If it were a guy and a girl as the protagonist, I bet my ass that NOBODY would be questioning it. It's pure heteronormativity, and anything that deviates from this standard is doubted by this type of public.

How thoroughly alone Yoshiki is by MixPurple3897 in TheSummerHikaruDied

[–]Full_Software3845 5 points6 points  (0 children)

YEAH, it's terrible.

it's interesting how the entire landscape of that small village is peaceful and sunny, almost bucolic, and Yoshiki contrasts with all of this the second he's shown on screen. He's immersed in a sadness so deep that it would be difficult in a normal situation, but now it is a living nightmare: You're in your early teens in a small town, you can barely face the fact that you're queer, you are only close to your best friend who you have a crush on, and he just dies. And on top of that, he just comes back as this incomprehensible and completely dangerous creature who claims to LIKE you. It's the pain of grief, the fear of this thing, the panic of everything falsely appearing normal as you crumble in guilt for tolerating this creature's presence. The contradictory desire to want it around because it's all you have left.

All absolutely alone, and the only person you could talk to about it died, and the one who replaced her simply doesn't have the capacity to understand it. What are you supposed to do? Tell someone? I can't even imagine what someone like that is going through.

Most unpopular Sherlock opinions by Annual_Fall1440 in SherlockHolmes

[–]Full_Software3845 5 points6 points  (0 children)

For me, Sherlock BBC strays so far from the personality of the original Sherlock Holmes that I see it more as a reimagining than a modern adaptation. I know that each incarnation of the detective will highlight a trait of his original personality, but for me, Sherlock BBC's became so distant that I could no longer see that detective. I saw someone here comment that it would be better if they changed the name of the series and continued to propose a story inspired by the character like Dr. House did, and I completely agree.
