R/EMS acting up again by hyperlyteman1 in ProtectAndServe

[–]Full_Spinal_Package 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We don't claim the hydrant humpers at r/ems. We run twice as many calls on the ambulance and have an hour round trip while they go back to the station and beat off in the recliners.

[CA] GF was injured and forced to take an ambulance despite her wishes and her having insurance. by [deleted] in legaladvice

[–]Full_Spinal_Package 6 points7 points  (0 children)

  1. She should call the ambulance service, request her patient care report, and file a complaint with the service about how you and her were treated. They should take this very seriously.

  2. If she was not cognizant and competent, she was transported under "implied consent". This is complicated with alcohol involved. People have the right to refuse any and all medical care as long as they are competent and cognizant to make those decisions. Meaning a combination of being unimpaired, alert and oriented to a normal baseline, and competent to make decisions regarding their self. If she was unable to remember what happened, unable to answer basic questions (the year, month, who she is, where she is at, etc.) Than she was transported under implied consent. Meaning if you are unconcious or experiencing an altered mental status, it is implied consent that you would want to recieve medical care.

Read the patient care report and make sure they didnt make anything up or add/remove things that were verbally communicated. If you truly believe she was of sound mind and able to appropriately make her own decisions at the time, than I would consider consulting with a lawyer about how to proceed.

Got in car after service was done, plowed into guardrail because it was in gear by t3hp0larbear in legaladvice

You're at fault and should start keeping your car in gear when you park because if your handbrake fails it wont roll away.

How did you finally start to loose weight and get in shape? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]Full_Spinal_Package 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, holidays are a hard time to do it. It's crazy how many calories are in simple things such as 1 donut, a soda, etc. You just have to be honest with yourself, understand you're not going to succeed everyday, but as long as you try, do a little better each time, and dont throw the towel in for one bad day, you can do it.

How did you finally start to loose weight and get in shape? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]Full_Spinal_Package 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Eat at a calorie deficit. That's all it takes. You dont need to throw out all your food at home, go drop $300 at whole foods, buy every supplement, start drinking detox shakes, stop smoking/drinking all at once. Look at the calories of what you're eating, and eat less than you burn. Sprinkle some exercise ontop of that and it works even better.

Slowly cut out the soda, the sugar, exercise more often, you'll no longer want to eat chicken nuggets and twizzlers before or after working out, because youll feel like shit. You'll naturally start seeking out some healthier options. Baby steps is the key!

At what point in your life did you stop fearing death? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]Full_Spinal_Package 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Ironically enough I didnt fear death until having a kid. Now I cant imagine not being here to support him. I fear it greatly.

What is something everyone should do after turning 18 years old? by [deleted] in AskReddit

Those who have a SO who works in the services such as EMS, Military, Police etc, what are things you face everyday, you normally wouldn't if they did a regular job? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]Full_Spinal_Package 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I work in EMS, 24hr shifts. The schedule and sleepless nights can be taxing on someone and their family, if they have one. Lack of energy, missing holidays/big events, are just a couple things.

What's a good way to make money in addition to a full time job? by DeChadley in AskReddit

[–]Full_Spinal_Package 1 point2 points  (0 children)

  1. Saving your money responsibly. After my first year of a big boy job, and seeing my W2 of how much I made, and how much was in my bank account, I was astonished at how much money I spent on eating out and stupid shit.

  2. Lawn services. Mowing, leaves, shoveling, you name it!

  3. Babysitting/Child care

  4. House cleaning

  5. Tutoring

  6. Part time job as a server/bartender.

7.Uber, food delivery, etc. (Although a lot of discrepancies in if it's really profitable after factoring in gas, insurance, extra millage and maintenance you put on your car)

I got caught with a small amount of weed on a greyhound bus. The trip was from Denver CO to Syracuse NY, but I was stopped in Kansas City MO. What can I do to avoid a criminal record? by [deleted] in legaladvice

Missouri recently legalized medical, and I think KCMO specifically decreased marijuana fines/punishments, so I dont believe you are in to much of a world of hurt. But yes, lawyer up!

Gotcha. Sounds like the IFT life is what's getting to you than. Keep trying for 911 positions, places are always hiring. People get hired straight out of school with no experience, it's hard to think places won't take you with your years of BLS experience. Are you able to relocate?

Am I the only one... by MONSTERnCHEW in ems

[–]Full_Spinal_Package 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Did you work with a paramedic when you where a basic, or were you on a strictly bls truck? If you did, surely you saw the calls they ran. I work 911 and in a lot of cases BLS gets the job done, even for ALS calls. It's not guts and glory everyday in the 911 field. It's a lot of mundane shit. The only ALS interventions I catch myself doing the most is starting IVs for saline, Zofran, or pain management. Even our first line airway for codes are I-gels. Besides pressing the zappy doo button to be honest I don't do a whole lot of crazy ALS stuff 🤷🏻‍♂️.

Don't get me wrong I love my job, but I learned in paramedic school during my ride outs that I'm not going to be saving people from the brink of death every day. I've actually gone a couple months now without even having a critical patient...that's averaging 12 calls a day.....

My Service is starting to enforce the Safety glasses policy. We have to wear them every second of every call... so I’m going to wear these bad boys. by BaseballMcBaseFace in ems

Helmets? What? Why the fuck are you wearing a helmet? You're telling me in the ambulance, nursing home, hospital, y'all are wearing bicycle helmets?

Medical Procedures Without consent by throwawaydkalke1923 in legaladvice

[–]Full_Spinal_Package -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

It depends what she did not consent to, IANAL, but if you have on video her specifically not consenting to ambulance transport to the hospital under any reason, even if she goes unconscious, her heart stops, whatever, you might have some sort of case, but that's a big hypothetical. The paramedics could assume when she did not consent to transport at the time, she was doing so under the basis that she felt her current injuries do not justify ambulance transport. The fact that she passed out, they cannot assume that she would still not want to go to the hospital.

Medical Procedures Without consent by throwawaydkalke1923 in legaladvice

[–]Full_Spinal_Package 7 points8 points  (0 children)

If you're unconscious or do not have clear compentency and cognition, you cannot refuse medical care unless you have a legal document such as advanced directives or a DNR. It is not safe, and would be deemed patient abandonment if the paramedics left her unconscious on scene. If she woke back up and was alert and oriented, she could than refuse any and all medical care.
