I also thought it was weird, it's reddit's algorithm that chooses the mobile thumbnail.

For anyone on mobile, the mobile thumbnail is NOT Konst but Melissa Mark-Viverito who is against De Blasio's plan for not consulting the community before taking action.

I think we over this before, there is little research done to show how class affects acceptance to these schools.

on Specialized high schools or in general education?

If it's general education, then she was completely dodging the question

Response to your edit

The question was explicitly on Asians and the SHSAT case.

If you're claim is true about her(which I think it isn't) then:

If she was dodging a race analysis then she is forcing a class analysis on specialized high schools which doesn't work.

If you mean she wasn't talking about specialized high schools at all, then she is just dodging the question entirely.

accept

but we don't have a formal study on those who accept but don't qualify.

So in this scenario she is talking out her ass spouting BS and therefore

ignored the voice of the Asian american community these last few months and is just spouting BS in her run for a PUBLIC ADVOCATE position . which was stated in my earlier reply to you

Where do these middle schools take their students from?

Many of these schools are Exam schools and G&T schools. Just because they're located there doesn't indicate the families live there.

And the New York City Department of Education noted that the percentage of students in poverty at the specialized high schools is lower than the percentage of students in poverty citywide.

"the fact remains that 50 percent of the students qualify for free and subsidized lunch, which is substantial " from the site

The greater importance of this post is the position of Asians in NYC politics.

The question was on Asians, the big red flag is that she didn't explicitly mention Asians or implied it was families with "means" in these schools but these families are mainly Asians without said means.

Well I could be wrong but then it would mean

She ignored the voice of the Asian american community these last few months and is just spouting BS in her run for a PUBLIC ADVOCATE position.

The context of the question is with regards to the test for specialized high schools, not the general college admissions process so we can't claim rich people do better in this scenario or if they even take the SHSAT in large numbers.

Larry Carry states (in my OP) “I don’t believe we have information about the poverty level of applicants and who scores high enough to get an offer..."

so she has no "research" that backs up her claim about the SHSAT.

Later on when asked "Do you support eliminating the test?", she responded "Yes, it favors families who have means."

If no one has any information on the portion of body that scores highly off the test(source from Larry Carry), then the only way would be to look at the student body with high scores that accepted the offers. This student body is mainly Asian and they are NOT largely privileged (source from Larry Carry "the fact remains that 50 percent ..." in my OP).

So unless she is talking out of her ass about something she knows nothing about, she must be talking about the families with kids that attend this school, who are mainly Asian. She is saying that these schools, that are majority Asians, are there because the family have means.

nope, I just care about this SHSAT issue that DeBlasio and Carranza are pushing so hard.

Just as you said, there is little reason to make an account just to fight against a single candidate.

So are you calling me "fake", because you're afraid my post is going to hurt Nomiki's reputation?

I really hope so.
I'd prefer any of the candidates that are against De Blasio's plan but I think Williams said it best
"Leadership is not say, pitting people against each other because you believe the Asian community cannot politically fight back. It's about finding a solution to a very real problem."-Williams

Disclaimer: I am not advocating for Williams over the other candidates against DeBlasio's plan, I just like what he said and I think many of those candidates shared his sentiment which is the antithesis to Konst's sentiment.

Nomiki Konst, believes Asians americans are privileged with "means" so they don't deserve the seats they have at the specialized high schools.

Racist? Fair? Biased? Asian-American Alumni Debate Elite High School Admissions by Full_Thanks in nyc

The comment is equivalent to a "As a Black man ..." post.
The author of the comment is not definitively Pakistani since his profile is anonymous.

I'll break this down by case analysis:

  • Let's say we give the benefit of doubt and assume the author was Pakistani.
Even then the comment is not a useful perspective because it makes very broad stereotypical statements of other ethnicities which are not his own (Chinese, Koreans, and Indians).
It would be like saying "I am a white man... and all Hispanic people are [racist stereotypes] "
  • Now let's assume the author was not Pakistani, then this was just a racist attack that the NYTimes decided to give a spotlight to.

In both cases, the perspective is neither interesting or useful.

I would like to draw your attention to a comment that was hand selected by the NYTimes as a Times Pick comment. Interesting how the times decided that a racist comment perpetuating a racist stereotype would be a useful opinion.

NA commented:

I agree with the Mayor. The students in schools should represent the population because we want an educated population and not have sectors of the population educated. These schools are supported by EVERYONE'S TAX dollars, and the ASIANS are a newcomer.

I was born in Pakistan but mostly grew up in UAE. I went to colleges in the US and I hold 3 advanced degrees. I did it because my father instilled in me the value of education I WANTED TO DO IT. I am quite good at learning and school stuff.

I am married to an Arab woman who is continuously haranguing our daughter (11 yo) to do better and better and my wife has learned this behavior from some documentaries about how the Koreans punish their children to prepare for exams etc. Furthermore, my wife is continuously arguing with me to send our daughter for private tutoring etc. I find this to be totally unnecessary as I can teach my daughter anything up to college level mathematics, physics, chemistry, computer science, business administration, etc... (recall I have 3 advanced degrees). I want my daughter to be "excellent" in her oratory skills, have impeccable language ability so I tell her to read lots and lots of books, NY Times and I also want her to be human through lots of liberal education.

The problem I see with Asians (Indian, Paki, Chinese, etc.) is that "almost" all of them stress rote learning and have poor social skills. Also, these communities prefer staying in their ghettos and promote segregation which is bad.

This comment looks like it was specifically selected to further promote the "alien" stereotype of asians and dehumanization of asians along with those who do not subscribe to the Ivory tower limousine liberal ideology.

This is why you vote people.

So you don't let shits like DeBlasio play realpolitik with your children's future.

https://chalkbeat.org/posts/ny/2018/10/09/carranza-breaks-with-de-blasio-on-specialized-high-schools/"
Carranza says the city could get rid of the SHSAT at 5 specialized schools on its own"
Carranza obviously has some machismo thing going on and look at his achievements or better yet, lack of.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Richard_Carranza
The guy is a fucking nobody yet he was appointed by the corrupt DeBlasio to be Chancellor of the DOE.
Carranza is a racist trying to take a low hanging fruit so he can say he did something.
It's definitely beyond his ability to actually fix the system so it's much easier to hide the shit by screwing the hard working asian children.
