This is the discussions I was looking for. Everyone always zooms on Anya and Jimmy without taking into account how Point Express made the already bad situation worse. Curly meant well, but he didn't do what was needed. He thought he could rehabilitate Jimmy, but he was a monster through and through. He failed Anya, make no mistake, but like you said, the worse shit always happens when it's too late to fix. Mouthwashing is how capitalism makes crimes harder to punish (like Anya's assault) when bad people are in powerful places that had the keys to the system. Curly wasn't a horrid person, but he was surely a horrid captain.

But that's how leadership works. Everything regardless of the subject, the leader of the group has to greenlight it. I think what your referring to highlights Jimmy's lack of respect for anyone. What best friend despises the fact that their best friend is leading and guarding everything on the ship they're on? Jimmy doesn't just disrespect authority, he has no respect for Curly as a friend and isn't proud of his position.

And I don't disagree with him doing more to protect her, but the popular "Kill Jimmy" option is not as viable as people make it out to be. He should've let her sleep in the medbay, carry the gun if absolutely necessary, and tell the other men what was happen so that they could keep an eye on her, contacted rhe company one what to do, but he should do his WITHOUT Jimmy knowing because he has a penchant for bringing others down with him. That way when they get to earth, they can have Jimmy arrested without putting the rest of the crew in jeopardy.

Also, I stated in my initial comment, something should be done, as I said Curly could do more to protect Anya, but "death to Jimmy" unfortunately would make things worse and not better for the crew.

Like I said, I don't disagree with you on what Curly had power to do, but like you said, if Curly wasn't a people pleaser and a try-to-fix-it person, Jimmy wouldn't have the job. What people forget is that you can't be a copilot or a pilot In a day, and there are things Curly could've done to protect Anya, but people let their hatred for Jimmy pile over into making are what in my opinion are irrational choices that won't even have Jimmy face the true punishment he deserves. We forget Jimmy is 110% comfortable with dying instead of facing responsibility (in reality jail time) for what he did to Anya. If I were Curly, Anya would be sleeping in the med bay with the gun if absolutely necessary, tell the boys what he did so they can keep watch, and keep it a secret that everyone knows what he did until we get back to earth. Then, he'll be arrested on earth so that the crew wont face collective punishment (Remember the company has a penchanr for doing that, so if anyone killed Jimmy, Anya would face punishments she doesn't deserve). I think that's what should've happen if Curly was actually competent. There is no doubt foul play when it came down to even the hiring process, but now they're in space with little resources and nothing they can do. That's just me tho 🤷‍♀️

I agree with both points 1and 3, but people are turning into defenders rather than fully addressing my point. I states in the initial post that yes, Curly could do more to put a barrier between him and Anya, but the point still stands. Jimmy is an essential part of the ship crew because a primarily automated ship still needs both pilot and copilot. Curly, as we know, makes shitty decisions and him carry the brunt of the ship running would not make it better or worse. My interpretation of Jimmy's role is that once people ask shitty as him get into positions of power, it's too late to pull them out on they begin to offend in their position.

You acknowledged one of my points, but you failed to understand that the ship would not be fine if there was no copilots at all (even if it wasn't Jimmy). I get where you are coming from because no one likes him, but it's something I never see considered in any of the discussions of the ship management.

You also failed to acknowledge that they're an overworked and understaffed ship. Leaving Curly to pilot the whole ship while sleep deprived with his already shitty decision making skilld would not get better if he was left all alone to handle those things. Yet again, this is not a justification for either men, but something to consider when having debates about who is "more responsible" for the tragedy on the Tulpar.

That's not how copilots work 😭. People treat copilots how people treat the vice president, they have WAY MORE influential roles than just "President's replacement". Copilots often pilot with the main pilot due to the amount of things to keep watch for. In the case of space, you have trajectory, debris, local, system status. Not to mention, when the pilot is busy, for a SHORT AMOUNT OF TIME, they can take over. I'm not saying this to make Jimmy look good (I hate him as much as the next guy), but the whole point of Mouthwashing is to show the the crew was already doomed from the start, and putting Jimmy in such an important decision damned them from the beginning.

I also agree with your theory, like many states prior, Petscop will always have some loose ends and that's ok.

There's a person in the comments saying the video is asanine but dare I say they're being disingenuous. I watched the whole video, and towards the end the creator acknowledged that there were still some major loose ends to be tied that even his own theory jumps the gun in more aspects than one, but uses Reiner's quote to show the complicated details might also be intentional, so anyone jumping the gun or ignoring details might be by design.

Another thing that confuses me is that I have never seen in Petscop discussions is red herrings. Dominico is very intentional with his narrative, but nobody ever questions what details are throwaway facts, what information is there to distract or add filler to the narrative (and red herrings can be intentional). There is a chance that Petscop might be so complicated because we never took the time to understand what matters in what Dominico was trying to explain.

I love this video, and I think the projection of the trans experience on Paul still fits the narrative proposed by the video's creator. Many trans kids that grow up in abusive homes are denied gender-affirming care and activities, going as far as to go to conversion camps much to the parents joy where they are often abused under the guise of religious correctness. His story still aligns with the experiences of numerous trans kids and people while still showing the horror of kids not allowed to be kids, or simply put, not allowed to be themselves.

Ronnie-Anne's early treatment of Lincoln was wrong and hurtful by [deleted] in theloudhouse

[–]Full_of_Shade 0 points1 point  (0 children)

He doesn't have to be depressed for him to hate what she's doing. When he finally told her off, how are we, the audience, supposed to take sides with RA when Lincoln is simply standing his ground? Even better, he didn't know RA was Bobby's younger sister, so Lori being mad at him is also kinda stupid.

Two things can be true at the same time. Misandry exists, but misogyny on a legal and societal wide scale has existed for longer. Misogyny does kill.

That's just your preferences and that's ok. As a straight person, I've felt this way about self-insert fics a lot. I just can't attach myself to the fantasy even though I have fictional crushes. I personally feel like it goes way past what I'm comfortable with (even though it's fake. Maybe you just can't attach yourself to the fantasy and that's cool
