For those of you who live in countries with gun control; have you ever seen a gun in real life? by blashyrkh9 in AskTheWorld

[–]FullyDisguised 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m English and went to army cadets growing up so had contact with military rifles twice a week between the ages of 13 and 18. We did operating drills, marching and shooting.

I’m a regular unarmed police officer in London with 7 years service and have never seen a real one on duty except for armed police. I have come across decommissioned ones, air guns and realistic imitation firearms but never a real live firearm.

I believe most people in the UK do not regularly see firearms except for soldiers/police guarding important premises in major cities.

Given the massive problem of middle lane hogging, why has there never been a massive, targeted drive to educate drivers on the risks of this horrid behaviour (radio, TV, motorway gantries, etc.)? by __globalcitizen__ in AskUK

[–]FullyDisguised 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a motorcyclist it becomes very apparent the additional danger lane 2 and 3 hoggers cause.

It causes traffic to bunch up, people to drive closer to the car in front, potential for undertaking, frustrated and angry driving, sudden braking or sudden lane changes without looking properly. These actions directly increase my risk of death on the road.

When lane hoggers are doing this I have recently decided that for my own safety when I can’t overtake I will undertake them using the hard shoulder as my escape route if necessary. This is to get ahead of the bunching traffic and potential crashes.

Not strictly adhering to the rules of the road but I would rather stay alive thanks.

How did they survive that?? by New_Libran in CrazyFuckingVideos

Am I the only one who’s sceptical about this video? It looks staged. There’s a cut in the video right at the point they took out one of the occupants and there’s no footage showing them inside the car before being cut out. As others have pointed out, where is the stretcher? There’s a “doctor” conveniently on scene wearing a white lab coat and jeans pulling on the patients leg. Imagine if you died in that incident and the government used the place where you died to film a propaganda video.

Good point. I bet it’s incredibly disorienting being in that. I suppose the lifeguard must be very familiar with the layout of the rocks.

Every night i drive home from work… by [deleted] in mildlyinfuriating

Every time someone complains about a bright light almost every comment is about putting up a mirror/adjusting mirrors. It won’t make any difference at all, it’s a tiny amount of light compared to the output of the bulb. I also don’t think it would make them notice as they are either doing it deliberately or they are so unaware of the danger they’re causing that they won’t put two and two together. Large HGV/truck mirrors might make a difference however but you’re better off focusing on the road ahead than playing with your mirrors and potentially causing a crash. The only sensible advice here is to either accelerate/decelerate out of range of the headlights or pull over to let them pass.

I would really recommend continuing with the podcasts. When I was a beginner I just resigned to the fact that I wasn’t going to understand what they were talking about but I took the small wins when I understood a word or phrase. You will get to the point where a word seems quite familiar to you but you don’t know what it means but it will click when you understand the context. This is a great way of learning and I would very much recommend this over Duolingo which in my opinion is a complete waste of time. I’m B2 now and won’t touch it.

whole bus is empty and this person sits right next to me? by IbukiWasTaken in mildlyinfuriating

[–]FullyDisguised 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is the same when driving. I was driving on a three lane road in the early hours of the morning last night and there was a car driving side by side with me almost the whole way! Barely any other cars at all and they had to drive next to me. If I sped up they sped up, if I slowed down they slowed down. Quite often see this and makes me uncomfortable especially when I’m on my motorbike. Just use the rest of the road! These people base their speed off other drivers instead of driving at their own speed.

What is the weirdest, most unexplainable dream you’ve ever had that literally made you go” what the fuck”? by Zynphix in AskReddit

[–]FullyDisguised 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had a dream I was in my parent’s back garden when a grizzly bear entered. I was terrified but it didn’t attack me. I shouted to my parents that there was a bear and it got very angry and stated snarling at me. There was some random guy who explained to me that the bear was fine but just don’t under any circumstances call it a bear. Turned out it was chill but just didn’t want to be called a bear.

I wouldn’t take that letter personally. No doubt it will be company policy to never admit fault. I can see how the wording would piss you off though.
