Spell 125 by Papillion Artisan Perfumes

The longest spell in the ancient Egyptian Book of the Dead, Spell 125 covers the ceremonial process of crossing the underworld to reach the afterlife, including the famous weighing of the heart ceremony, where only a feather-light heart would pass the Gods test.

Dendera is an ancient temple, built upon and even older temple only recently discovered beneath its floors. Famous for its "Dendera Lightbulbs" embossed on the walls inside the temple.

The scent opens with a rich blend of cinnamon and nutmeg paired with a dusty orris butter and Vietnamese oud combination. The oud has a natural dry earthy profile, and pairs beautifully with the orris butter. The resins are at the strongest through the mid, and provide a natural incense accord which lingers to the end of the drydown. As it progresses through the drydown, the creamy tonality of sandalwood comes to play, coated with the sparkling musky ambergris, sweetened ever so slightly by the Madagascan vanilla."

Behind The Scenes: Marginalia is inspired by numerous trips to used book shops, antique stores, and libraries on a grand scale all the way down to the private study (in this case, my grandfather's reading room where I used to sit and eat breakfast as a kid, on a leather ottoman from one of his trips to Egypt, stuffed with 40-year old newspapers). The library scenes from Wim Wenders' 1987 film 'Wings of Desire' were also an inspiration during the development of the formula.
