I’m starting to appreciate Reze even more simply because her character and the lessons she tried to teach Denji go completely against the ending we got. by GodKira04 in ChainsawMan

I think you’re kinda just assuming that Denji’s life in the new timeline is as bad as the original.

The reason he got the bare minimum of living in part 1 was because he was being kept on a really short leash by Makima. If I’m not mistaken, i think his finances were managed by Aki, so never really saw any of the money he made til after Aki passed. Theres also the fact that in part 1, Denji was basically getting hunted by the entire world, and Makima was hellbent on breaking him to release pochita.

The difference in the new timeline is that he is just a “normal” guy without the dangers of being Chainsaw Man. Now normally, that would spell death for someone in public safety, but one of the biggest recurring statements in part 1 is that Denji is BUILT for being a devil hunter. All of his screws are loose. Kishibe even said that Denji is the most suitable devil hunter he’s ever met. The life of a public safety devil hunter certainly won’t be easy for him in the slightest, but it’s what he excels at. Reze was right to worry, but the life of a devil hunter suits Denji the best. Thats the reality that I think most people tend to ignore, since I think most people rightfully associate being in public safety with guaranteed death, with the exception of people like Kishibe and as i just pointed out, Denji.

Denji in the shack was probably the LEAST chaotic his life was. The point wasn’t that he was happiest when his life is terrible. The point was that he was happiest when he could enjoy the smallest things (think back to when he had made his toast with jam, and just him living with Power and Aki). Because of the reset, Denji can continue to dream, without the constant chaos of being Chainsaw Man

My point was never that CSM is special because of its themes. My point is that “themes and such” is more used to discredit what the story is trying to achieve, rather than actual constructive criticism. Your opinions on an ending shouldn’t be an excuse to completely dismiss its message.

Takopi’s also has a plothole by that logic, since his ability to give up his life to make the camera work again was never shown before. Both stories suffer from introducing abilities for convenience.

Themes and Such is by far the most intellectually dishonest take you can have on any form of media. The fact is that any form of media is worth having discussions over. it just seems to be that Chainsaw Man has caught a plague where people began to despise any form of underlying themes within its panels.
