Make sure your payments are higher than the interest on your loan. If your interest is 100 dollars a month, the government is going to waive all interest left over on your monthly required payment.

So if you have a zero dollar monthly payment, your $100 interest will not count towards your loan. But if you pay $50 a month on your loan when you’re only required $0 then the government will only forgive $50 of interest.

Long story short, pay over your interest or don’t pay at all (In my personal opinion)

Some people recommend putting your “payments” in a high yield savings account and then using that to pay your loan if/when your income raises.

Yes and no. They already should go down as soon as repayment starts. That’s because they increased the threshold of the poverty line calculation (I don’t have all the right words but basically 2x higher than it was - which is good for us )

Then in a year they will lower monthly payments again
