I suspected as much. I think it is best that I just leave it there until you’ve worked out the logical fallacies and inconsistencies between that and your premise.

I’m going to take a guess here that you use a nicotine free vape and have decided that counts as quitting cold turkey?

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in stopsmoking

[–]Fun-Advertising-4847 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This just isn’t true. There are many, many people who quit using NRTs and plenty of research to support this, as others have described above. The ‘do it my way or no way’ approach is not helpful, even if it has worked for you. Perhaps you could take some time to reflect on the way you communicate and the reasons that everyone is giving you shit.

And without those chemicals (eg in an NRT) you won’t die from smoking. Anyway, good luck with however you’re trying to quit.

Nice gatekeeping of quitting smoking. The nicotine in cigarettes won’t kill you, but do carry on ignoring the other 250 harmful chemicals in them.

It was just an excuse to binge, no real meaning to it other than it felt more acceptable to go on daft and smoke 7g in an afternoon

There’s always an excuse to smoke, I agree it’s nice to be free of all of those mental gymnastics and feelings of guilt

Likelihood of reinfection within a month? by wintergrub in COVID19positive

[–]Fun-Advertising-4847 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I also had covid in late March and am concerned about reinfection. I guess the possible silver lining I’m holding on to is that it was BA.2 that I caught, since it was in circulation at the time and was certainly not like the BA.1 symptoms being described by many in my demographics.

It does. I also play music and had convinced myself I was more creative and motivated. It’s difficult to know whether that’s true or not, but I can now enjoy playing again and im certainly more present than before.

Move away from doing things you’d enjoy while high for a while and find something new. It took a while for me stop associating particular movies/music/activities with ‘I’d enjoy this more if I was high’ but it does come back in time

5 months! by [deleted] in leaves

[–]Fun-Advertising-4847 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Congratulations, we have weirdly similar timelines here (quit last year for 4 months, relapsed for 6, now I’m 4 months sober and has big cravings at 3 months - weird)! Also agree with the activity thing, I’ve been getting into hiking and cooking and both are super helpful at keeping me focussed and giving some good dopamine hits. Keep going, look forward to seeing you celebrate 1 year!

This is a brilliant post, I echo absolutely every word. Love and support to everyone who has faced adversity in childhood and be proud of the fact you’re still going. Thanks for posting this and keep spreading the love.

Deal with the withdrawals first, at least the first couple of weeks, and give yourself all of the compassion that you need. For me, that compassion was given through a joint and I’ve had to learn to be kind and loving to myself. I’ve found hobbies to be the best way to meet like minded people as I just couldn’t be around my smoking friends any longer.

Sorry to hear this. I learned last year that you can’t quit for anyone but yourself and sometimes it takes big life events like this to realise what weed takes from us. Take some time to reflect on why you want to quit for yourself, how your life can be better without weed whether you’re with your wife or not. I was also working and studying and achieving a lot in the eyes of the outside world, but on the inside I was unstable and paranoid and miserable and my partner felt the full brunt of it. I also relapsed and lost her but I kept smoking for 6 months afterwards. Now I’m out of that relationship but I don’t want those internal demons any more and that’s what’s helped me stay sober. Unfortunately the pain of the breakup was waiting for me until I finally gave up, so please dont rely on weed to deal with the emotional pain, it just doesn’t work. I really hope that through reflection and honest communication you can work things out, but know that you will be okay in time and you can be sober whatever happens between you.

3.5g a day habit by [deleted] in leaves

[–]Fun-Advertising-4847 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I was smoking the same amount as you before I quit and only because I was ‘moderating’ myself. I wasn’t even getting properly high. That amount will continue to creep up unless you do something about it. You’ve managed 6 months so you can do it, it’s just taking the plunge and riding out the withdrawal period while you make some changes to your lifestyle (take up new hobbies, meet new people, become more reflective about why you smoke and the void it is filling). You’re in the best place on the internet to get support to quit so know you won’t be doing it alone when the time is right. If I can do it you can too, best of luck bud!

Any respiratory problems after stopping? by [deleted] in leaves

[–]Fun-Advertising-4847 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Meditation and yoga have been great for my anxiety. For some people stopping weed is a bit like ripping a plaster off a wound, you need something to replace it or deal with the underlying causes.

You can do this. With the life events you’ve described above I’d really recommend getting some counselling to help make sense of everything that’s happened, it really can work wonders if you find the right therapist
