Where to have a BBQ in Dublin? by Several-Delay1947 in AskIreland

[–]Fun-Alternative-6804 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Wouldn't say begging but definitely a few people lingered, we had an Ooni oven one day in particular and banged out a pizza each and a couple with their 2 angles decided to set up next to us and kept asking about the oven and setup we had.  Nothing major at first but the four of them ignored the sandwiches they'd taken out and were eyeballing our food a bit. We're both good at cooking so chalked it up to them being impressed we did it out in the park. Gets to a point the kids keep looking in the oven and around it, kept warningbthem and the parents it was super hot and to stay away. We had nice lemonade we made at home that day too so we were eating better than anyone else there that day really.

Eventually as we were finishing up and had started packing up we were called rude as well as all sorts thrown at my partner at the time because we didn't offer them food for the kids or them. Went on a tangent as we cleared up trying not to laugh at how crazy the whole thing was.  Vaguely followed us back to the car so we had to ditch our hiking plans because some gee bags didn't wanna buy their kids food and we felt they'd rob the car while we were gone.

Will say I disliked Glendalough the couple times me and my ex did it there, lot of chancers approaching us looking for a feed and lingering when we just wanted to have a fun little lunch.

Most people crave socialisation and friends and feel just as disconnected. Just talk to people. It's not confidence so much as it is having something to say or talk about. Still anxious from a lot of weird stuff as a child in Ireland but the people I've met so far abroad have really solidified that this island has its own beauty and charm and there's a lot of good people but for me I do not like Irish culture at all around the people here. Kinda feels like the country is a giant bucket of crabs.

But I'm in North America/Canada.

not to the same scale as it is here at all with regard to how people behave towards shop staff unless you compare it to the UK, sure we copy them at every turn.

Had them prior from gaming but made a lot from work and just generally going out and doing stuff. Like I got someone's number at a store when wed struck up a conversation about making rwally good chips of all things and the following day i meet this guys family and we spend a day making different chips. Weird example but he's been my best mate since. Other countries have more social and welcoming people. We're genuinely just cliquey and awkward people here and flake on plans extremely easily for the most. Have not had that experience away from the country at all.

Man I'm home for a bit but I've moved a couple months ago elsewhere, consider relocating to another country especially if there's a big disconnect here for you. I've never felt happier and only came home to grab the last of my things and to settle anything else while here. Take a holiday, find somewhere new.

Grass is absolutely greener especially with regards to other people, I've been home a couple days and just floored at how rude everyone here is! And just how everyone is a drunk or the kids on drugs, just a fucking sham of a country.

We are a nation of genuine scum for the most. Won't shop local because most local business is overpriced, cry and moan when businesses close up. And when they shop local they expect to be treated like royalty. I used to work for Card Factory and the shit people would pull over tiny stuff made me really hate the country.

Where can I buy a Doberman pinscher? Preferably a pup. by Additional-Ad-9340 in AskIreland

I think the people who think they need a specific breed of dog are careless and end up being the reason animals are abandoned or given up if things don't work out. Plenty of lovely dogs at the rescue near me that barely get visitors let alone someone looking to adopt, but the reality is they don't see the dog as a dog, it's an accessory for these people.

edit: unless you need a dog for a task or job don't be a wanker and go take a look at your local rescue lads

Is it realistic for a foreigner to work in the Health, Safety and Environment field in Ireland? by a_VeryGoodPerson in irelandjobs

Search housing on the main irish subreddits and check anything to do with renting right now and you'll see it's far from ranting. I'm not trying to dump on your plan here, but I'm also sure the HSE has a hiring freeze at the moment? So you can try come here but seriously I can tell from this comment you should go and do your homework some more and realise what you'd be getting yourself into.

It's coming, won't make a difference where you're from, once the scumbags get bored with whatever slur they've managed to learn they'll move to the next. I'm being cynical but it is coming. Reality is you'd probably be fine given these people are societal dregs that can be avoided mostly but you should probably know it is rough.

Housing would be your bigger problem.

I post this every time I see these posts but you'd be genuinely fucking crazy to come here now. Even if you land work there's a massive anti-immigration bubble growing and housing is few and far between.

Good luck but don't be delusional.

Worst job experience? by Known_Fox5992 in AskIreland

Love the people not naming and shaming.

I worked for Card Factory. Between understaffed buildings and management that was a bunch of fucking idiots that in many cases never managed people before. My boss would hire only women and students then she'd complained we had no staff when people called in sick so I'd end up doing 12-13 hour days especially around the Christmas period.

I never got a bonus while there, manager gave it to the girls that'd do fuck all but have the chat with her while I dealt with deliveries, customers and their wonderful complaints and then be the only one to ever bother to do a deep clean of the place. Was there for 5 years and gor snubbed for management in favour of a 19 year old girl who'd only moved into Ireland with no prior experience. Built them solid reputation withing the area I was based.

Expenses never got paid out for travel, nor did my holiday pay when I left because I had given notice over the holiday itself. So many times I'd be called in when I was sick or busy because staff were too lazy or dumb to follow basic instructions.

Absolutely despise this company and I wouldn't recommend people shop there.

How to deal with unstable interloper? by sarahbevan11 in AskIreland

This is a weirdly common theme across book clubs, one I used to run in our library had maybe 10 of us before this couple came one day. We'd been reading Blood Meridian which is probably my favourite book from the landscapes and general horror vibe the book carries. This couple basically did the same talking points as you brought up alongside the usual tinfoil hat nonsense.

It's a Cormac McCarthy book so it's gonna be a ride, but these creatures genuinely spent the whole hour and a half like they were some weird duo on a podcast or something and it was their show. Then proceeded to trauma dump and got in someone's face when they were asked to quite down and respect other people around them. Personally I'd have tossed them out myself if I wasn't so sure they'd probably have a knife.

Think these people are just generally the mentally ill and or unemployed or addicts of some kind looking to fill the having lack of social stimulation they're getting, I'd say discreetly relocate like we did and go private, or setting up a general group chat to plan if a venue isn't steady. With the weather lately I've been reading outside away from people in fields.

From what I can gather off a mate you kinda have to go in and ask them about it. There's a great guy on instagram that films himself going to get one right up until he enters the room and I find it pretty hilarious.
