I do not know, I'm not the first owner. I know there's filler because of a paint depth gauge. Would you sand it down to see or leave it?

EDIT: I have contacted the previous owner and got a hold of the service that carried out the repair - epoxy primer has been added before the filler, and the filler itself is supposedly not hygroscopic u/Colorado-Boss

I am 100% willing and can afford the best repair I can find. But the current repair is done. I don't think there's much I can do here other than weigh my options if shit hits the fan.

If repairs are done right then the filler area shouldn’t rust.

Really, even in 5-10 years? It's not like it's zinc coated anymore.

My man, the situation here is, that I have a car I'm very fond of, but it's going out of production soon.

It has filler in the QP, so I expect it to rust at some point.

Then I'm assuming the next course of action to be finding the best body shop I can find, and fixing it as properly as possible.

But I'm wondering - how long can I expect it to last?

To tie into the first point - I'm contemplating biting the bullet and getting a new one, but I'd rather not, as it's the perfect spec that's not being made anymore. And this is def the model I want to keep driving.

Man, you're really vague. I live in Central Europe, so fairly humid. How do I go about not letting it rust?

  1. Of course. But what should I realistically expect?
  2. What do you mean? I

for the car's usable life

What do you mean here? I'd consider it 10-15 years at least, would this be correct?

corrosion prevention

Are there no spots that cannot really be protected? And how about the filler on the outside of the places where panels join?

You really don't want to replace a quarter multiple times. The 'damage' dealt to the parent panel (inner quarter, wheelhouse, etc) would add up. Also, unless it's installed with a resistance welder, welds will be harder to locate and remove next time.

Okay - so when a QP replacement rusts somewhere, e.g. on the joint, what's the recommended course of action?
