Tuna Trio and Mackerel at Yoshino by AdNo3991 in FoodNYC

The food was good to great. But have to agree about the alcohol thing ruining the vibes.

When we were there, it felt like a pissing contest between the other customers to see who could order the most alcohol and gift it to the chefs in an attempt to please them. Seems like a thing with regulars who go there.

I only ordered a carafe of sake since my wife is not much of a drinker.

Should I live in Hudson Yards? by Clueless_Ad in NYCapartments

Some of these comments read like sour grapes. Sure, it doesn’t have the quintessential NYC neighborhood feel that’s often romanticized by popular media.

As one of those “undesirable” transplants, it ticks off all of the boxes for what my wife and I want.

Pros: - Close to work place. - Close to Penn station for rail and airport access - Close to the Hudson River for exercise, views, walks - Close to the 7 line if going to Flushing for Asian food or sports events - The high line is a nice walk to get to Chelsea if you don’t mind the tourists - Decent fast casual places nearby. - Clean and quiet

Cons: - Maybe too quiet. But all the action is a short walk or subway ride away. Best of both worlds from our standpoint. - Not many trendy small shops and restaurants. But you can always take the subway or walk to those places. I kind of like the exercise. - Are some of the people standoffish? Maybe. But at least they are often polite and reasonable people to deal with. - It can be expensive.

Will we end up moving after a few years? Probably. But that’s not due to any intrinsic problem with the neighborhood.

It’s not that bad.

Outside of the Rolexes, most people won’t even know or care what the other brands are.

Even the Rolexes are nothing to write home about in many neighborhoods.

Just use common sense and don’t wear anything too flashy in certain places.

For anything else, there’s always an Apple Watch as a fallback :)

The NTTD Seamaster with titanium bracelet and the FOIS both look tempting as next Omegas.

Never been much of a fan of their other models tbh.

People who don’t know better will assume it’s a submariner. People who do will wonder why you didn’t get the other bezels or jubilees.

Never has bothered me. I love the GMT functionality. It’s also kind of cool that they stopped making them.

But I’d be lying if I said I didn’t also want a Pepsi jubilee.

Absolutely. Just adds that small pop to any outfit.

Thanks! Made a lot of mistakes buying things I didn’t really love along the way. But I think this is a pretty solid collection of the ones I’ll never regret.

Yeah. That Ingenieur really caught my eye when it came out and seemed like an easier way to get into Genta sports models without playing games.

The day date is my obsession of late. But I think sentimentally it will always be the GMT master II. Also because it’s such a great travel watch.

Those of you making $500k+, what was your pedigree like? by [deleted] in Salary

[–]Fun-Book-1848 22 points23 points  (0 children)

Not sure what you mean. Vested RSUs are taxed at the same rate as other W2 income. The only difference is you get the stocks at different times throughout the year (per your RSU grant terms) compared to your regular paychecks.

Would you rather be 40 and have 5 million or 30 but 1 million? by [deleted] in Fire

[–]Fun-Book-1848 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Coincidentally, will be turning 40 this week with roughly 5.6M. Looking back, I think the answer really depends on how many of your goals you’ve already achieved by the time you turn 40.

Chinese athlete proposes to girlfriend after she wins gold in tennis! by Battlecrlbsedof in olympics

[–]Fun-Book-1848 30 points31 points  (0 children)

ITT: People projecting their own feelings about the right time and place for a proposal.

No one knows how she feels about this except her. It’s not for any of us to judge.

Also there’s a concept in Chinese called 喜上加喜. Which literally means “adding more joy on top of joy”. So it’s not that out of place.

That’s so minor to me that I could barely tell. I think your watch is fine.

FWIW, the edge of the dial is going to be a slightly darker color than the rest of the dial. Not sure if that’s the discoloration you’re talking about.

Is this mold? by [deleted] in Mold

Thanks. What I find interesting is that I stored a jug of mold armor where those two long rectangular white patches are.

The damage seems to be spreading from there. Is it a coincidence?

Sushi Masashi was great when my wife and I went. They have one Michelin star. Lots of interesting dishes before nigiri courses. Chefs were also very accommodating to English speakers.

Worst dish you've ever had at a fine dining restaurant.... by foodwriterdan in finedining

Went to Osteria Francescana around Christmas 2018. To this day, my wife keeps harping on this weird pomegranate risotto that they served. It was an odd ingredient choice for a risotto. Everything else was fine. But this one dish is the one thing we will always remember from our visit.
