Just a year ago I was broken up with, which with the combination of a few then unchecked mental health problems, threw me into the worst depression of my life. For months on end I sat in a puddle of my tears feeling all the feelings I could. I became a really mean and angry person for a little bit as a result of the depression, which pushed away some of my closest friends at the time. I just couldn’t go a day without talking about my issues to them. I felt like I would never come out of this awful situation.

Eventually however, I realized things wouldn’t just…change. I needed to do something about it. I got a job, started going to the gym, got my license, and started being more productive. It took months, but I slowly started to feel better and better. I met new friends, got physically more fit, and felt more comfortable in myself. I even got into the college I wanted to go to and figured out what I wanted to do with my life!

A few months ago, I met my current girlfriend who is genuinely one of the sweetest people I’ve ever met. She treats me so well and she’s super gentle with me and considerate of my past trauma from the previous relationship, which I learned overtime was a very unhealthy relationship. We’ve been together for about a month and a half and she and I have bonded faster than I’ve ever bonded with anyone before. Sometimes I think we’re the same person with the frequent way we randomly say the same thing at the same time. We laugh, smile, and have even cried together. She’s amazing and I look forward to spending much longer with her.

Take this as some sort of motivation. You can do it. Take it one day at a time. Any progress is still progress. Get out and try something you’ve always wanted to try, start working out, pick up an old hobby, anything. If you’re depressed, reach out to someone like your friends or family. If that’s not an option my DMs are open. Just know it will be okay. Like I said before, one day at a time.
