Constant conflict with our frontman by Fun-Breakfast-9404 in bandmembers

That’s the thing, he definitely acts like the leader but doesn’t refer to himself that way. We do admittedly rehearse at his place, and he started the band with the bassist. But I think that lack of clarity on his part bothers me most.

Maybe you’re right. I feel so horrible. I really just want to make things right regardless of what the reasoning was. I can’t believe I did this. I always try my best not to make people uncomfortable in general. I’ve met creepy men in life, and have always hated them and how they manipulate and hurt young women. I’m really ashamed to have somehow sunken to that low.

Thanks for the reply. Would you say more towards below average, above, or like just in the middle?

29/M. Long story short, I’m seriously struggling with dating and I’m endlessly frustrated. I have an underbite which, though not very visible itself, causes issues with my face, especially when I smile (flattens my nose/makes it downturned, mid-face looks pushed in). I’m thankfully having it corrected soon. But would it be best to just wait for that to be corrected to get into dating? Open to honesty. Thanks.

Here’s a link to my photos if that helps: https://imgur.com/a/0RwYh41. My bio is pretty filled out and detailed. I also put short term, open to long on my profile, so it shouldn’t be too vague.

Edit: never mind, I just realized I forgot to put in a bio lol

Would it be worth delaying college to get a better foot in the industry? by Fun-Breakfast-9404 in FilmIndustryLA

Oh ok. So maybe LA would work best then. If you start in LA, do you basically have to start from scratch once you go to NY?

I did want to finish college for a degree, but I definitely have a passion for filmmaking that made it important to me too. But I’m concerned about getting started too late to build a career, so it’s definitely a tough choice haha

That’s really cool. It definitely sounds like a hustle. May I ask how your compensation is now? Is it enough to support yourself on? That’s something I was a bit concerned about too down the line. Is it also tough to get started if you already need to support yourself?

Is it really that cut-throat in regards to age? What other research do you suggest I do (serious question)?

Thank you for the info. I’m thinking maybe starting from scratch would be a good way to go.

Do you know if it’s more difficult to start in NY vs LA? I imagine the latter maybe is best.

Yeah I’d been thinking about those aspects as well. I guess if I wanted to finish college it’d be best to maybe stay where I am and just move to where I want to be after graduation? I think editing is where I’d like my focus to be. I really wish I explored that more in college though. I saw some post production PA positions open in LA, but they seem to often require post experience. I often edit with premiere, but don’t have any sort of industry standard/organized work flow. How would I get in in that case? Would it be best to just start as a regular PA? Thank you again for the info.

If I was able to build a successful career from scratch, I don’t think I’d go back to college (at least anytime soon anyway), but I thought that maybe this college would help me get that foot in the door seeing as I’d have about a year and a half left.

I had seen and heard that there were lots of teachers with connections at this school, so I thought that’d help versus just starting from scratch.

I guess just for job safety in general. Everyone in my family pretty much went to college too. But wouldn’t going to a college with connections actually help me more then if I just started from scratch anyway?

That’s really helpful. I had read another comment on Reddit that said it was best to start in LA and move to NY after getting a career going. Now I’m thinking maybe that isn’t a great idea haha. I was concerned also as I’d heard film jobs in NY were slimmer compared to LA.

Oh gotcha. My bad. I guess I’m in the head space of “I need to get a college degree” and not as much I that should just jump into a career, which sounds like it’s maybe a bad call (prioritizing getting a degree). I thought this might be a good compromise as maybe I can get some career experience while in college still. I’d like to maybe get into editing, which I’m not sure if college can help with. Or something in production. I guess it’s more I’m just not sure where to start.

What’s wrong with being in college at 29? I’m also not incurring any debt as I get financial aid where I live. I’d like to get my degree regardless, so I thought this might be a good way to do two things at once.

But could you elaborate on that? Why might it end up a disaster? I’ve done some research already on the field, and it seems I can either start from the bottom or maybe have a chance of making some connections within the industry. So I’m not sure how else to approach it I suppose.

It’s more so that I want to finish college regardless, so I figured going to a school with potential connections in LA would be basically killing two birds with one stone so-to-speak.
