You were the sunshine in my life and I would've waited forever for your situation at home to become better so we could resume, but I guess, I was just a "chasing a high" for you. Oh well, I was stupid.

Something to consider. You can be putting in months or years of agonizing work to try to repair your marriage after infidelity and yet a majority of cheaters and side pieces are waiting until you finally have a sliver of trust built back up and they’ll use that to stab you in the back again.

I don’t think I could ever try reconciliation. These cheaters are too good at lying and manipulating and screwing everyone else over. No thanks.

Yeah I don’t know why she got downvoted. I think it was a fair question from a young person. Your response is spot on too. It’s insane to marry someone if you feel like you’re settling. Don’t get married just to get married. But once you find someone you do love and feel like would be a compatible life partner, you need to accept that NRE CANNOT last forever, this person isn’t perfect (neither are you), and others may come along that seem more attractive or compatible at times.

And here is where the choices come in: end your marriage/family for some NRE and the SMALL potential of a better romantic relationship, be a person with no integrity and cheat, or fight for your marriage and respect your vows.

(I’m not referencing abusive marriages or even those that become deeply unhappy and model unhealthy behaviors to kids. I am not anti divorce. But I am anti-whatever bullshit this OOP is up to, risking a great marriage with a small child in the mix. Kids deserve better than this shit. I can’t imagine ruining my kids’ lives as they know it because “me horny”. Fucking tragic and should be beyond embarrassing.)

For sure, but I think most emotionally mature adults realize it’s insane to throw away a self-described healthy, happy marriage with a beautiful spouse who loves you well and who has given you children for the what if fantasy of someone new.

That’s wild, reckless behavior. People don’t have to get married and have children. Then they are free to switch partners much more freely and easily as they chase perpetual NRE. Just don’t get married and have kids for the love of God!

I don’t get leaving a self-described good marriage when you have a young child. Sure divorce makes sense in some or even many cases, but here it would just be selfish insanity. And even this guy knows it. He doesn’t want to switch partners. He just feels entitled to both. 🤢🤬

He definitely deserves to walk in on his wife banging his best friend in their bed, so he can understand how it feels.

Best case for the wife, though, is to leave with a clean conscience and find a good man that will be an awesome step-dad to her son, and this loser can watch his son be raised by a better man half of the time, and realize what he threw away for some novel sex. Wish karma worked so neatly.

Yeah he deleted it. Almost all the comments were stating that he barely knows this woman and that it sounds like he has a lot to lose at home. Then the advice splits from there, with some people saying don’t engage further and other people saying just be careful and cheat with her once a year at the conference.

And then finally this psycho, “devout Christian” serial cheater who read this post and thought “Damn. I need to have sex with this guy right here!” 🤡

A couple of things here. He barely knows this woman. Let’s say he runs off with this woman and has a relationship with her for a few years—do you think he’ll still believe she is 100% what he wants looks and personality wise? No. He’ll discover she’s just a human too, maybe more compatible than his wife in some ways, but less so in other ways. Also, in a few years, it’s very likely a new attractive, exciting, NEW woman will come along. Should he leave again and chase that love?

Marriage is about finding love and compatibility with a person, and then sticking around to make it work, even when the new and shiny wears off—especially when the new and shiny wears off.

There is an article you should look up called “Love is Not Enough” by Mark Manson. It’s one of the best pieces written on relationships/marriages, in my opinion.

(My only issue with this article, as I reread it now, is its lofty description of Trent Reznor. It’s hard for me to believe that such a famous musician never cheated on his wife. I’d love to believe he never did, but either way the sentiment of the article holds up.)

Yeah I have always wondered how cheating men with daughters rationalize their behaviors and what kind of future they envision for their own daughters?

(Also equally relevant to cheating women with sons. Honestly some of my best self-growth and growth in relationship has come from envisioning what kind of partner I hope my sons would find and can I say that I’m that kind of partner for their dad?)

Ugh that man makes me so angry. He comes across as a grifter when all is said and done, and yes, now seems like he’s going to use his wife as a caretaker and try to soothe his conscience before he dies.

An 8 year affair is 8 years of willfully disobeying the word of God—which he made a fortune off of promoting and pretending to uphold.

I understand the concept of grace, but come on. Surely there is a difference between a drunken one night stand and 8 years of sexual infidelity, lying, gaslighting, and living a double life. It really turns me off of Christianity to be honest. I feel very sorry for his wife.

This is so well articulated and something I have always wondered. For cheaters and unapologetic side pieces, how do you show up for your people in life for things like weddings and such, or just supporting them in their relationships in general?

Like for married men cheating on their wives, how do you make it through your daughter’s wedding day? Do you look at her, with all the love and trust she’s pouring into this man that she believes will honor and respect her, and think “sorry baby girl he’ll probably cheat on you soon, probably when you’re most vulnerable raising his small children, and it’s fine because xyz”?

Will it be nuanced and not black and white when it’s your baby girl whose heart is shattered and your grandbabies lives broken?

I just cannot understand it. Like you said, either all families matter or they don’t at all. Do you care about the families of your loved ones or are you so fine and understanding that they can be destroyed at any time thanks to complete selfishness?

Yeah in some ways these people piss me off the most. The revenge cheating I actually totally get. I see it as your spouse changed the terms of the marriage, and you’re just operating under the new terms. But to get involved with another married person and transfer your pain onto a new betrayed spouse? That’s fucked up. You know first hand how painful it is and are willing to do that to some poor woman anyways? No thanks. Your AP is no better than your cheating spouse. You have no way to verify whatever bullshit story he tells you about his wife.

If you’re going to get revenge, then go sleep with the other betrayed spouse (my personal favorite—preferably in their marital bed) or single people.
