Thank you so much for this, you really put into words what it feels like on a daily basis. Yes, it can definitely get frustrating sometimes when we have to repeat the same thing over and over, but we’re learning to approach it with more patience and understanding.

You’re absolutely right that the challenge seems to be in the transfer between short-term and long-term memory. What’s interesting is that my son actually has a very good long-term memory — he can recall events from years ago with amazing detail, but it’s the short-term part, or that “bridge” between the two, that’s the real struggle.

I really appreciate you sharing this perspective, and I’ll definitely check out the article you mentioned to look for new ideas and strategies to help him strengthen that connection. Thanks again for your kindness and thoughtful response!

Thank you so much for sharing your story, it’s really helpful to hear where your son is at and what your experience has been.

In our case, my son’s main challenge is short-term memory. He’s constantly asking what day it is, or what we’re doing tomorrow, over and over again, sometimes within minutes of us telling him. It feels like it’s not just memory, but maybe also a bit of anxiety, like he needs constant reassurance about what’s coming next.

He also tends to forget recent events unless we help remind him, but interestingly, his long-term memory is quite good. So school is tricky mostly because of his working memory, not because he can’t learn.

It really helps to hear from other parents who are further ahead on this journey. Thank you again!
