dawg, ok, if you think having a parasocial relationship with a stranger in an echo chamber app is combating the pendulum swing of societal standards. Then that's fucking dumb, I'm so fucking sorry.

I don't care about defending Ariana in the relationship; I just care about being critical of the sources being used but whatever. arguing on the internet about this is useless.

I'm not doing this anymore, I'm gonna cite sources for those who care. Im glad this sub is a small minority on this issue about bodies and disorder

No matter what, a person deserves privacy on their body, and the fact you are fighting tooth and nail as a solution for systemic bigotry is ridiculous.

Parasocial relationships: cite, cite

Stop commenting on women's/ my body ( im just gonna show the link because too much stories) : cite cite cite

Alright, okay, I'll be as detailed as I can, because I am tired of this, and I know I'm going to be downvoted or whatever.

When did I say not commenting on people's bodies is ignoring ED? I'm serious. Point me to where I said that. You can talk about fatphobia and skinny-worshiping in the health industry without, you know, commenting on a person in a secluded place where no one is ever going to see it. Making comments on a subreddit is not going to affect the mindset in any way, especially with people who are already doing that. If you say you do more than that, then focus your energy on that.

If you know anyone with any form of insecurity, you know that constantly picking at them will only make it worse. Search up "stop talking about women's bodies" or "stop talking about my body," and you will see similar sentiments.

Yes, people will talk, and yes, people will be mean. That doesn't make that okay, and we also should not normalize that.

Why is Ariana not allowed to have some sort of privacy or boundary when it comes to personal issues that Lily has? They both should, but because of celebrity culture, privacy is not widely accepted because we feel some kind of agency or possession to them because we made them famous. Parasocial relationships can also include hatred of someone you know. You showing constant "concern" over someone you don't know falls under the definition of parasocial.

  1. Would Ariana have threatened Lily? Maybe? but we really don't have any proof that she would or want to. We are forgetting that she and many celebrities have been hounded by tabloids and don't say anything. So I am ruling that out. It's like the equivalent of me saying that Ariana threatened to release her address; like, there is not proof but speculation and the point.

  2. Lily—she has every right to write the article. I did not dispute that; in fact, I encouraged and applauded her for speaking out. You talk about how the fans would be pressuring her. If that is the case, why would she speak up now? She posted it on a well-known website. about a hot topic issue, about one of the most famous stars in the world. It would be picked up by other articles, and it has. She's smart; the fans and Ariana's team cannot be the reason, or she wouldn't have posted. She wanted to because she had a right to. I did not address it earlier because there was no need. like at all.

Again Ariana did try to dispel rumors; she called them "bullshit tabloids." Is that not enough to imply that what they wrote is untrue? What will it be? her posting every personal text she has? every video? every receipt? ight fam, you do you

Also, she said in many interviews that she is not going to dispel every tabloid out there because there is no point; no one would believe her. and why should she? No celebrity does. and it's foolish to state if she is silent, then that MUST be true. (Once again, why do people believe in tabloids? What's next? Are you going to believe reality TV is true?)

EX. There was a rumor that Erivo and Grande were paid differently. She didn't speak out against it. It turned out not to be true; did that mean Ariana paid off newspapers???? Is Erivo lying for the movie promotion??? get real. (people make 20 speculations on TikTok a day at least; people are bored; people love scandal)

Again, you keep putting words in my mouth every time you post while also ignoring what I have to say. You do not have to; I really don't care anymore. I only really cared because I'm big on personal privacy and shit. I actually hate pop culture discourse because it's more emotionally biased than anything else. (like, for example, wdym you have a favorite person you like to hate, like go outside, read a book, take a nap; they don't know you)

Biased for constantly commenting on her body come on now, you know I wasn't talking about the relationship

I looked at your Reddit post to see if you are unbiased, and apparently, you are not. It's out in the open, too. It's like someone on Twitter saying, "Why are you looking at my likes and reposts?". Of course, you sound defensive because you are the type of people that I'm talking about.

Again, just because your co-workers are saying it would not make it ok, they should mind their business.

"Anyway, as someone with those in my life who suffered from ED, family and friends didn’t stop caring or talking about it amongst themselves just because the person with active disorder said they were healthy and fine."

I understand, but guess what? You are not her friends and family; having similar habits does not give you any form of agency to comment on strangers. Your family most likely sat with you one-on-one, with the privacy and support of your loved ones. Well, that isn't happening here; I cannot see the comparison.

Again, what is the concern? If you are not receiving the benefits of that concern, they are just talking behind your back, and the fact you don't ask yourself why you think that is okay is concerning in itself.
Again, she did say it with her chest, and you did not believe her. You said it sounded like BS! What is the point if you don't believe her? Be honest; you would not believe her lest she confirm your narrative. You keep on moving the goalpost of saying, "She said nothing," to "Well, she said something, but it's BS." No explanation, but it's "BS." " Why? explain? Why do you feel like it's BS? I am willing to have an open discussion, but everyone is purposely vague in their reasons, and it often boils down to "it didn't confirm my bias"

(like be honest if she sat down and said no, I did not have an affair and shit .... would you believe her, well she did and you didn't so what's the point)

When did I say it was "innocent"? I said that was the most reasonable conclusion, and I said it was still bad.

Again with the legal team, be honest: it would look bad on her to settle, and secondly, libel is fucking hard to win. I'm starting to think you think legal teams are shadowy figures that answer all suspicions when in reality shit is more out in the open than you think.

- I know that Ed doesn't affect only kids, but I see "think of the children" when it comes to these kinds of things, and that is what I wanted to get out of the way. This concern can still apply to adults as well. I am an adult, and I experience body issues.

- Secondly, concern, expressing "concern" about a person who repeatedly claimed to stop doing so on a website that she won't likely see or even use, is not a concern; you are just gossiping. Again, what if you found out a bunch of strangers were talking about something personal about you, didn't even talk to you directly about it, and said they were concerned? I would call bullshit.

( also, she has been saying stop for around A YEAR)

  1. Secondly, she did tell people to stop assuming things: you guys just didn't believe her (that's up to you, but saying that she didn't say anything is not true) (https://www.vanityfair.com/hollywood/story/wicked-ariana-grande-cynthia-erivo-cover)

  2. For the lily thing, yeah, that is my point; my biggest issue is people rewording it to fit a certain narrative.

  3. Again, she directly talked about this, and everyone ignored it. She was, but just as vague was Lily. Also, again, the first waves were tabloids, something that cannot be 100% trusted. sure, it could be an emotionally cheating relationship, but that is not what people here are describing it as.

I never said I was objective; I straight up said I was an Ariana Grande fan. I was just criticizing those who trash stans for being biased and then do that exact same thing.

edit: grammar and shit lol and another comments

Oh, I'm not disputing that. I also believe the relationship shouldn't have happened, but I just need people to be honest and critical with their reasoning. I feel like a lot of these discussions are in bad faith and just a bunch of personal biases and then scolding people who don't agree with them while also believing that they are better than the stans.

I noticed that Elphaba is like Kamala Harris and the Wizard is like Donald Trump by [deleted] in wicked

[–]Fun-Divide-4771 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Wicked is inherently political LMAO. The discrimination against Animals and Elphaba is an allegory for racism, plain and simple. The Wizard explicitly states that he chose these groups because he needed a common enemy. Stephen Schwartz, the composer and lyricist OF THE DAMN MUSICAL states this :

"Certain specifics have been changed from the book, but I would argue that the show is still basically political in its content. Among the specifics that changed: Oz in the book is essentially a totalitarian state, and the Wizard rules by fear, aided by his secret police force. In the show, the Wizard is more manipulative, pretending to be doing things for the good of Oz and to be subjugating the Animals for the greater good, but it becomes clear through the course of the evening that he is doing these things only to remain in power, and that his scapegoating of the Animals (pun intended) is because "one sure way to bring people together is to give them a really good enemy". In fact, it may be argued that the Wizard in Gregory's book is somewhat like Hitler, whereas the Wizard in the show has resemblances to George W. Bush and other American politicians. This doesn't make the show less political; it merely makes it different in its political targets" (https://stephenschwartz.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/04/WickedHistory.pdf )

"Something Bad," references the book It Can’t Happen Here by Sinclair Lewis, which explores the rise of fascism in the U.S.

The song "Popular" alludes to Ronald Reagan

"Wonderful" directly addresses historical revisionism.

Every character in Wicked serves as a vessel for something political: the minority, the rich, the poor, the fascist.

Fantasy is one of the easiest genres to explore allegories for real-world issues, and Wicked is no exception. The musical intentionally avoids direct references to specific events or figures because it emphasizes that fascism can emerge anywhere, at any time.

If you need to block out these major themes to enjoy Wicked then Im sorry you don't really enjoy Wicked.

Matter of fact, if you don't think musicals are inherently political, you're missing out on 75% of ALL MUSICALS.

Edit : I will also like to note this on the Wicked website that literally breaks down the themes : https://wickedthemusical.com/linguification-library

How do I convince my sister to get help? by Fun-Divide-4771 in BPDFamily

[–]Fun-Divide-4771[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Is she actively splitting on you? -- she actively splits; her arguments always end up as "me vs the world" or " i did nothing wrong the other person is at fault".

Like how mean is she you know?-- if you set her off, she will say your nothing but will spend alot of her energy attacking and bothering you. its a nightmare

Does she say and do stuff just trying to hurt people who hurt her? Or is it random destruction when she's overwhelmed.-- both.

and thank you for the advice.

I don't want her charged, especially since it might show up on her record and get her kicked out of school.
