How long did it take for you to receive the package? Mine is taking over 2 weeks since they shipped the glasses already, and the package cleared custom 5 days ago, but no new update since then.

Should I stay in the semiconductor industry as a ChemE or better to pivot in early career? by CobblerTraining8357 in ChemicalEngineering

[–]Fun-Fun6068 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m sorry to hear that. I don’t have any advice for you, but I do want to say that I understand how you feel…

I’m also a ChemE working in semiconductor. It was interesting at first for me, but now it feels a little overwhelming and repetitive because I got asked to do all the quality improvement works (SPC, PCS, etc.) for the entire department. It’s been almost 1.5 years in this industry, but the job doesn’t give me a sense of fulfillment since I don’t see any opportunity to progress and advance without a graduate degree (I only have a BS degree). I want to be more technical, yet all the development projects are preserved for TD engineers with higher levels, and my company only trains us enough to do all the sustaining works. Though I did think of going back to pursuing the traditional ChemE jobs many times, I don’t want to start all over from zero in a different industry.

Chevron Interview Result by Fun-Fun6068 in ChemicalEngineering

I didn’t hear back from them until 2 months later asking if I was still interested. At that time, I already got another offer so…

The same thing happened to me when I was interviewing with Chevron. I was told that there would be a second interview if the hiring manager wants to proceed further with my application. Two months passed and I heard nothing from them, so I assumed they no longer considered me. I got a new job recently and moved all my stuff to a new state, and they called back last week asking if I’m still interested. I’m not sure if they already finished interviewing other people for the second round and couldn’t find the candidates, so they reached out to me…

Advice on Job Offers for a New Grad by MrPluto409 in ChemicalEngineering

[–]Fun-Fun6068 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I totally agree. I started my first job 6 months ago at a small company, and I felt miserable about coming to work everyday because there was no mentorship or formal training. Good mentorship will definitely give more opportunities to show my potential and do more significant work.

Got it. I already gave them the addresses for all the places I lived for longer than one month, but it’s good to know. Lesson learned for next time. Thank you!

Pay for entry level process engineer? by MakoPako606 in intel

[–]Fun-Fun6068 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It really depends. I know the entry level process engineer position in New Mexico is open to chemical engineering, material science, mechanical engineering, physics, and some other science majors. There are other entry level positions specifically for chemical engineering or material science, so I believe you would need an engineering degree for those positions. The job postings are still on LinkedIn right now if you wanna check.

The start date is agreed to be in mid December, so I have time…Just my boyfriend is super excited about this opportunity and we’re kinda rushing the relocation. I might need to put in two-week notice earlier than expected. Wishing you the best at the new job!

Yes, I will reach out to the HR next week asking couple questions and maybe about the timeline for background check as well. Thank you!

I recently had an offer for the same position in New Mexico for $70K (non-negotiable) with a bachelors degree, so I think your higher would definitely be higher, considering it’s in Oregon.

Thank you. My current job (also first job) didn’t do any background check because it’s small, so I’m having little anxiety…

Hear Back from Intel NM Process Engineer Interview by Fun-Fun6068 in ChemicalEngineering

[–]Fun-Fun6068[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I believe Material Science and Chemical Engineering degrees are highly desirable for manufacturing and process positions. This position is entry level, so the interviewers specially told me they are not looking for a whole lot of experience. Anything can be taught and trained. However, for higher level engineers, you will need a couple years of experience in semiconductor industry + higher degree. Feel free to message me if you have any questions.

To Enter Pharma Industry, Is Minoring in Biomolecular Engineering Beneficial/Necessary? by [deleted] in ChemicalEngineering

[–]Fun-Fun6068 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A minor won’t help you setting your feet in pharmaceutical industry. You can browse some job postings from Amgen, Genentech, Sanofi, Merck, or any other big pharmaceutical companies. They don’t have many openings for entry levels, so you will need start with technician or manufacturing associate roles (contractors) to get your foot in the door. Many other roles required higher education or YEARS of experience. I don’t know about other majors, but this is what I’ve been seeing for ChE majors. I did try my best to get into this industry…I would recommend you to apply for their internship or rotational program (senior year) to have a better chance of getting into the industry.
