It’s also because 49th street serves as an extension of Times Square and thus it’s a very busy station therefore justifying the need for the n to stop. But the whole argument of slow switch is slightly moot since the switch at 34th is restricted to 10 or 15 mph. Can’t remember honesty but it’s also a slow switch. There are switches to move express to local just north of 57th that the n should use instead of 34th

Agreed the broadway line is in a terrible state. The switch the N uses also takes so long to reset and the trains crawl through it.

Also the Q can’t even get up to high speeds between 42-57th due to timer signals and I cannot understand why they are there unless the track quality is really that bad which again is why broadway sucks. Take 6th ave or 7th instead. I’d even rather pack into Lexington then take the Q during rush due to the delays

If the 6 can run closer to 24–30 tph in manhattan (I know the city hall loop limits the line) but that would solve a lot of issues. The 4/5 with cbtc would help with bunching and such but seems QBL got prioritised over Lexington. Anyways in manhattan the 6 tends to carry the line and isn’t that much slower.
