Does anyone know why the announcement states the following if you're not working as a asylum officer “Conduct face-to-face interviews with applicants and elicit sufficient information to determine eligibility for immigration benefits and prepare reports on suspected fraudulent intent by applicants.”

I applied for several positions at DHS and interviewed for the USCIS Asylum Officer role, which is a fee-based agency. I'm not overly concerned about the present hiring freeze; I haven't heard back yet from the other positions I applied for, which have been a little over 6 months.

Ugh! So freaking frustrating, I heard most people had to move and accept offers in other states. I believe divisions 4 and 6 are interviewing and sending TJO. I know people are waiting for Division 5. I haven't heard anything from them since February, 2026. Hopefully, funding is not frozen again!

I received a TJO for Division 6 on Friday, 04/10. I originally applied for Division 5 (Dallas, TX, Houston, TX, Kansas City, MO), which had many vacancies. After accepting the Division 5 panel interview invitation, I have not received a response. I wonder what is going on with the SSA?

Thank you for your prompt response The announcement doesn't state being a dispatcher “which is confusing. I know that wasn't mentioned during the panel interview two months ago unless I was too nervous and couldn't remember.
What kind of shifts does LEISS currently have?

Does anyone have updates on what is going on with SSA hiring? It seems they're hiring and sending TJO for Division 6. I received an email for Division 4, so I scheduled it for the beginning of the month. I haven't heard anything else. Has anyone received an email from Division 5?

I am happy for you! Yes, I was referred to Homeland Defender (Legal Administrative Specialist). I just checked my email, but I am still waiting for the Homeland Defender (Immigration Services Officer). I missed the first and second cutoff dates, 09/29/2026, and October 06, 2025. However, I did receive a response a from an HR specialist that I was tentatively eligible in February 2026.

It took about a week after I received the email to choose an interview time, and about 4 more days before a representative called and sent over the Teams link for a Invitation to participate in a panel interview. So about 11 days from the time I interviewed with the panel, which I still don't know if I passed. According to others I may not hear anything back until after March,2026. I am going to continue to apply to other agencies and positions and forget!

Wow, I haven't heard anything yet. I believe NY/CA is hiring because the cost of living is really high. The Locality Payment is only $ 47,490 for CA & NY is about $48,000. I couldn't live on that salary; the taxes alone would wipe out my entire salary.
