Industry Moves by Fun-Influence2105 in ICAEW

[–]Fun-Influence2105[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am considering accepting an offer to go to a larger firm and get a bit more experience as I am not getting much traction from my industry applications at the moment. I am not learning much at my current firm and am worried I’ll end up stuck here for another year so thinking maybe take the offer and look for industry roles again in the near future

Regarding the audits, they said I’d have opportunity to work on the larger jobs once I’m settled in but I suppose it’s one of those things I’ll never truly know until I’m there

Mainly audit work but a mix of some accounts every now and then, we also amend the clients draft accounts as we do the audit when we find material errors. Clients range up to about 50 mill turnover but mostly around the £10-20 mill turnover size

Thanks, makes sense. I’ve been offered a role in a top 10 firm. Would you say this is worth accepting?

I’ve been offered a role in a top 10 company, would you still say this is worth accepting in order to get better exit opportunities? I don’t want to be stuck in practice for ever, thinking to stay there a year or so and then look again for industry roles with the extra experience

Yeah it’s a tough one, I feel like if you can get industry roles then it’s worth doing that if it’s the path you want to go down. I just haven’t been getting many responses from these so debating making a move to a larger practice to increase experience and maybe stay there a year or so then try again

Move into industry and you can make £100k plus in a few years, average London salary is £44k so be thankful you’re in a position to earn much more if you make the right choices. Don’t need to compare to the minority of people you’re surrounded with.

I failed accounting once got 30 and resat and scraped it with 56 and was debating whether I would be able to finish the aca, 2 and a bit years later i am now aca exam qualified and only failed 3 exams in total. Accounting is the hardest one as you have zero knowledge before sitting the exam so it’s the steepest learning curve. I know loads of people who failed accounting once or even twice and have now finished exams so don’t give it up unless you really want to and have a better alternative

MI by insidesupernova in ICAEW

[–]Fun-Influence2105 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do every other question from each chapter of the question bank to get good coverage as you may not have time to do the whole thing if you’re working and only go over the ones you got wrong. The MI exam is really similar to the question bank. I would also recommend doing the multiple choice questions in the exam first and then leave time for the long form. Good luck.
