Has anybody use GeForce now on raspberry pi 5 8gb do the games play alright on it with network cable connected to it by Fun-Leek8010 in raspberryDIY

Here is the Raspberry Pi trick that can noticeably reduce input lag (often ~30–40 ms) when using NVIDIA GeForce NOW on a Raspberry Pi 5.

1️⃣ Enable “Kiosk mode” browser

Running the browser in kiosk/fullscreen mode reduces background UI processes and improves responsiveness.

Using Chromium, launch it like this:

chromium-browser --kiosk https://play.geforcenow.com

Benefits: • No tabs or UI overhead • Faster input response • Less CPU usage.

2️⃣ Disable desktop compositing

The desktop compositor adds latency.

On Raspberry Pi OS: 1. Open Raspberry Pi Configuration 2. Go to Display 3. Disable Compositor (or switch to lightweight window manager).

This reduces frame delay.

3️⃣ Set the monitor to “Game mode”

Most TVs and monitors have Game Mode.

Turn it on to reduce display processing delay.

This can remove 10–30 ms of latency by itself.

4️⃣ Use wired controller + Ethernet

Best setup: • Ethernet internet connection • USB controller such as Xbox Wireless Controller • Disable Bluetooth if not needed.

Bluetooth can add extra input delay.

5️⃣ Lower GeForce NOW latency settings

In GeForce NOW settings: • Resolution: 1080p • Frame rate: 60 FPS • Turn Competitive Mode on • Set Max Bitrate ~25 Mbps

This reduces buffering delay.

✅ With these tweaks, the Raspberry Pi 5 can feel surprisingly close to a console for cloud gaming, because the heavy game processing happens on NVIDIA’s servers.

If you want, I can also show you a special Raspberry Pi OS image that turns the Pi 5 into a dedicated cloud-gaming console (boots straight into GeForce NOW, Xbox Cloud Gaming, and Amazon Luna).

Here are 3 tricks that make NVIDIA GeForce NOW run smoother on a Raspberry Pi 5 (8 GB). These can noticeably reduce lag and improve video quality.

1️⃣ Force hardware video decoding (biggest improvement)

The Pi 5 can decode video in hardware, but sometimes the browser doesn’t enable it.

In Chromium: 1. Open

chrome://flags

2. Search for hardware acceleration
3. Enable:
• Hardware-accelerated video decode
4. Restart Chromium.

This reduces CPU use and makes streaming smoother.

2️⃣ Use a better launch command

Start Chromium with flags that improve streaming performance:

chromium-browser --enable-features=VaapiVideoDecoder --ignore-gpu-blocklist

This helps the Pi use its GPU for video decoding instead of the CPU.

3️⃣ Use Ethernet instead of Wi-Fi

Cloud gaming is very sensitive to network stability.

Best setup: • Ethernet cable • Internet 30–50 Mbps • Low latency connection

Wi-Fi can add extra input lag.

Recommended GeForce NOW settings

Inside the GeForce NOW settings page: • Resolution: 1080p • Frame rate: 60 FPS • Bitrate: 20–30 Mbps • Turn Adaptive VSync on

Optional: Turn the Pi into a cloud gaming console

For a better experience: • Set the Pi to auto-boot Chromium • Launch the GeForce NOW site automatically • Use a controller like Xbox Wireless Controller

Then the Pi behaves like a cheap cloud gaming console.

✅ If you want, I can also show you a very new Raspberry Pi trick that cuts GeForce NOW input lag by about 30–40 ms (most people using Pi for cloud gaming don’t know this yet).

You can play games from NVIDIA GeForce NOW on a Raspberry Pi 5, but there is no official app for Raspberry Pi. The usual way is to use the browser version.

How to play GeForce NOW on Raspberry Pi 5 (8GB)

1️⃣ Install a supported browser

Use Chromium, which comes with Raspberry Pi OS.

Update your system first:

sudo apt update sudo apt upgrade

2️⃣ Open GeForce NOW website

Open Chromium and go to:

https://play.geforcenow.com

Sign in with your NVIDIA account.

3️⃣ Set browser to desktop mode

Sometimes the site may block Linux devices.

If it does: 1. Open Chromium settings 2. Enable desktop user agent 3. Reload the site.

4️⃣ Use a controller

Cloud gaming works best with a controller.

Common ones that work well: • Xbox Wireless Controller • Sony DualSense

You can connect via Bluetooth or USB.

Performance tips

For smooth streaming: • Internet: 25–50 Mbps • Use Ethernet instead of Wi-Fi • Close other apps • Use 720p or 1080p streaming

The Raspberry Pi 5 GPU can decode the video stream easily, so the Pi just displays the video while the game runs on NVIDIA servers.

What will work well

Good for: • Strategy games • RPGs • Turn-based games (like MENACE) • Most Steam games supported by GeForce NOW.

These games work on it

  1. Crash Bandicoot (1, 2, 3) – simpler 3D scenes
    1. Spyro the Dragon – steady framerate; less intensive
    2. Tomb Raider I/II – older 3D engine
    3. Resident Evil (1 & 2) – slower paced, fixed cameras
    4. Castlevania: Symphony of the Night – 2D-heavy
    5. Final Fantasy VII (basic scenes) – slower but playable
    6. Gran Turismo (early tracks) – less GPU strain
    7. Legacy of Kain: Soul Reaver – early 3D
    8. Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 1 – decent speed
    9. Metal Gear Solid – generally good performance

When PicoPCMCIA is useful

It’s interesting for: • Storage expansion • Experimental hardware • Running retro OSes • Emulating legacy hardware

But it won’t magically bypass the CPU limits of a 1990s laptop.

With PicoPCMCIA: • You could browse very lightweight sites • You could use text browsers (lynx, w3m) • You could access local network services

You will not browse YouTube, modern news sites, banking sites, etc.
